In cyber, there are areas attracting attention and areas attracting dollars, and they are often not the same. :) Zero Trust is one which has been attracting attention for some time, but seems to be attracting dollars in 2025. As I talk to cyber leaders across the Indian landscape, one thing is becoming clear, Zero Trust has moved beyond theory—it's now the default architecture for enterprise security. In 2025, no one is asking if they should adopt Zero Trust, but how fast they can mature their implementations. Top trends to keep an eye on: AI-Powered Security: Gen-AI and Agentic AI are transforming threat detection and response. Microsegmentation + ZTNA: A powerful combo for reducing attack surfaces. Targeted Rollouts: Focused deployments around critical assets are delivering faster ROI. Identity-Centric Access: Granular, context-aware controls are replacing network-based access. Strategic Alignment: Zero Trust is now a business enabler, not just a security framework. Time to start aligning Zero Trust with NIST 800-207 and ISO 27001 and embedding it into core business strategy and operational design.

On 1 September 2025, the National Cyber and AI Center (#NCAIC), under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (#MeitY), released India’s first #AIGovernance Framework (2025–26). The Framework calls on companies and Boards to act decisively. It expects them to: (a) Classify every AI system into prohibited, high-risk, medium-risk, or low-risk categories, and apply safeguards that match the risk level. (b) Build lifecycle compliance, ensuring privacy, security, and fairness are embedded from the design stage through to deployment. (c) Stay aligned with existing Indian law and regulatory obligations. This includes the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (DPDP Act), which protects the privacy of individuals’ personal data; the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In), which issues mandatory reporting timelines for cybersecurity incidents; the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), which regulates the financial sector; the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI), which oversees capital markets; and the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI), which supervises the insurance sector. Together, these agencies ensure AI adoption remains safe, lawful, and trustworthy across critical industries.
