The Power of "And what else?" Back then, my quarterly connect with our CHRO,Krish Shankar started with some small-talk, followed by a quick update from my end on some of the critical projects. The most common follow-up question from him would be "And what else?". A thoughtful silence would follow after this. A simple but powerful question that would allow me to reflect, think deeply, get into details and share more. Very often, this translated into meaningful conversations, creating a safe space for sharing thoughts and ideas. In fact, the silence did all the talking! It is a common tendency for people to skim the surface in conversations. The first answer is rarely the best one. One of the biggest pitfalls in leadership is assuming we know the full story too soon. Michael Bungay Stanier in his book, 'The Coaching Habit' says 'And what else?(AWE)' is one of the best questions in any coaching dialogue to get to the heart of the matter. True leaders, good coaches understand the value of pausing and don't rush into solutions. Instead, they use this question as a tool to nudge people, give them the space, let them go beyond the default responses and discover what truly matters. #leadership #listening #empowerment
