I have researched lots of product-based companies like Amazon, Microsoft, Netflix, Zomato, Goldman Sachs, Paytm, J.P. Every example above started off as a clueless beginner, and they were patient enough to be bad, make mistakes, and keep showing up. They weren’t obsessed with overnight results, they obsessed over getting better, even if it was just 1% at a time. No matter how badly you want success, some things take the time they need and it’s important you give yourself that time. Remember: Everyone you look up to was a beginner once. And the only thing they did differently was stick with it when it was hard. Be patient. Keep building. Your story is still being written.

Here are 3 Lessons I’ve learned in my 3 yrs as an SDE that changed my life. LESSON #1 → Asking early saves you time later. Whenever I got stuck, I reached out, paired with a teammate, shared logs, or walked through the flow together. A good engineer doesn’t solve problems alone, they solve it faster with collaboration. LESSON #2 → Take feedback seriously. Whether it was Code or design reviews, the feedback stung at first, but acting on it made me sharper. Each review wasn’t about “fixing mistakes” but about raising my bar. LESSON #3 → Systems break at the edges. The happy path is easy. What I started focusing on were edge cases: timeouts, retries, failover behavior, scaling limits. That attention to detail made me more confident in production environments. Working at Microsoft & now Salesforce, these lessons have shaped me into more than just an engineer who codes & into someone who owns systems end-to-end. I can’t handle this anymore. Work + Job Switch Prep? Impossible?? If you’ve ever thought this while juggling a full-time job and preparing for a switch then do give this post a read. 
Some days, after long hours at work, even opening LeetCode or updating the resume feels like climbing a mountain. But here’s what keeps you going and eventually will help in the transition 👇 🔹 Even 45 focused minutes daily can move you forward more than weekend marathons. 🔹 Every “no” is just feedback. Adjust, apply again, and keep going. 🔹 Update that resume, apply for that role - clarity comes as you move. 🔹 Not every task needs equal attention. Cut down distractions, focus on what matters - prep, networking, rest. 🔹 Some days you’ll feel stuck. But even unseen effort compounds, trust the process. 🔹 You’re not lazy if you skip one day of prep. You’re human. Resting is part of the journey. 🔹 Some get an offer in a month, others in six. Don’t compare timelines, run your own race. 🔹 Don’t just prepare for coding rounds. Communication, problem framing, and confidence play a huge role. Switching jobs while working full-time is not about being a genius.
It’s about showing up daily, even when you’re tired, and believing that effort will pay off.
