The system relies on community informants trained through short video modules to recognize symptoms of Acute Flaccid Paralysis (AFP). Early findings suggest that AVADAR improves community awareness and enhances reporting speed compared to traditional surveillance approaches.

To avoid this, plants are used to reduce certain contamination of heavy metals. In this paper, heavy metal concentrations and alpha-amylase activity in plants grown on the contaminated soil was investigated. The objectives of the study were; to evaluate heavy metal concentrations in cowpea plant grown on contaminated soils, to extract and characterize Alpha amylase from the plant. Soil and cowpea plant samples obtained from polluted and unpolluted (control) area, as well as cowpea seed variety samples (7) obtained from IAR ABU Zaria, were digested and analyzed using Atomic Absorption Spectrometer (AAS). The alpha-amylase activity was also determined using a conventional method. Correlation analysis was also done among heavy metals in the soil and the leaves. Michaelis constants (Km) and maximal rates of substrate hydrolysis (Vmax) were determined Using Lineweaver-Burke plot. The plants grown on contaminated soil showed synergistic effect on the removal of Pb 109 mg/ml and Fe 49.5 mg/ml. The result of the correlation analysis for Cu, Pb and Fe showed positive relationships among these heavy metals in both contaminated and uncontaminated soils while Zn showed a negative correlation. The activity of the enzyme 30.0 µmole/min was found to be higher in seeds when compared with other samples. The enzyme optimum pH showed mixed activity due to iso-enzymes. The optimum temperature 60 0 C produced activity of 10 µmole/min. The results imply that, plants growing in the vicinity of land used for military activities may pose some negative effect on the alpha-amylase activity and may affect the food chain.

A Comparative Analysis of Optimization Heuristics Algorithms as Optimal Solution for Travelling Salesman Problem
2022 5th Information Technology for Education and Development (ITED)
Travelling Salesman Problem (TSP) is considered non-deterministic polynomial time hard (NP hard) ... more Travelling Salesman Problem (TSP) is considered non-deterministic polynomial time hard (NP hard) problem that cannot be solved traditionally especially when the number of cities increase. Therefore, Heuristic Algorithms are feasible solution to such type of problem. TSP is a representative of a larger class of problems known as combinatorial optimization problems. In TSP, if a Salesman wants to sell goods in different cities, he leaves a city and visits each other cities exactly once and returns back to the starting city. People may want to plan for the fastest or the most economical method to their destinations. The research aims to examine and develop effective and efficient optimization technique to get a shortest or suboptimal path. Google map uses Dijkstra’s Algorithm as its fast-finding algorithm which is reported to have problem in searching for all route within a limited location. On the other hand, Ant Colony Optimization Algorithm can contribute effectively in solving lots of problems including shortest path problems, particularly, where other algorithms are inefficient. Both ACO and Dijkstra’s Algorithm for simulations with a given routes(length) gave better result than random generation of routes for given cities. Results from the simulation experiment for ACO shows the Best Routes and total length for the best routes while results from Dijkstra’s Algorithm show Minimum Cost for source node and destination node, for PSO gives better result with slower convergence. More iterations lead to get accurate results especially PSO Algorithm.

Data collection instrument was research developed questionnaire; duly validated by expert of Health Education and has a reliability index of 0.84. Out of three hundred and seventy-seven questionnaire copies that were administered, three hundred and forty-nine were duly completed and returned for analysis. Percentage/ frequency count was used to describe the demographic characteristics of the respondents; chi-square was used to test the Hypothesis at significant level of 0.05. The finding for this study revealed that, public secondary schools in North Eastern States, Nigeria significantly practiced the used of dustbin collection method of solid waste management practice in their schools. It was recommended among others that North Eastern State governments and pubic secondary school administrators should collaborate with NGOs and Ministry of Health to double their effort on creating awareness for the utilization of dustbin method practice to reduces the danger of hazards of solid waste.

METHODS This intervention was implemented in 99 targeted high-risk districts with concerns for silent polio circulation, in eight countries in Africa between 1st August 2017 and 31st July 2018. A total of 6954 persons; 5390 community informants and 1564 health workers were trained and equipped with a smart phone on which the AVADAR application was configured to facilitate Community Informants (CI) sending alerts on suspected AFP and health workers’ use of electronic checklists for investigation ...

AVADAR Application: a learning model for designing a mobile-based disease surveillance system using participatory community reporting in Africa (Preprint)

The Auto Visual AFP Detection and Reporting (AVADAR) is a digital health intervention designed as a supplemental community surveillance system. OBJECTIVE This paper describes the design and implementation process that made AVADAR a successful disease surveillance strategy at the community level. METHODS This paper outlines the methods for the design and implementation of the AVADAR application. It explains the co-design of the application, the implementation of a helpdesk support structure, the process involved in trouble shooting the application, the benefits of utilizing a closed user group for telecommunication requirements, and the use of a consented video. We also describe how these features combined led to user acceptance testing using black box methodology. RESULTS A total of 198 community informants across two provinces, four districts and 32 settlements were interviewed about appli...

This chapter demonstrates the effects of friction and behavior which can occur in a bolted fastening (screw thread) for advanced design purposes. To model this behavior, other control components are attached to the bolted screw. The bolt preload is applied with a predetermined torque. For this case the preload depends on the friction under the head and in the thread. The friction prevents the loosing of the bolted fastening. This effect is termed as self-locking effect. We designed an algorithm that reproduces an exemplary simulation scenario, which determines friction and its effect on thread angle based on the strength of the coefficient of friction at a specific tension or clamp load value using the system-of-system approach. The result shows specific behavior on both the motion in threads and drive sc...
