[TOYO Signs Collaboration Agreement with Italy’s AWS on Wet Electrostatic Precipitator (WESP) for Urea Plants, Aiming to Minimize Environmental Impact] Toyo Engineering Corporation (President and CEO: Eiji Hosoi, TOYO) has signed a collaboration agreement with AWS Corporation Srl (AWS), an Italian company specializing in air pollution control and environmental protection technologies, for the application of Wet Electrostatic Precipitator (WESP)*¹ technology in urea production plants. In urea plants, air containing urea dust generated within the plant is treated in scrubber towers before being released into the atmosphere. While urea*² itself is harmless, urea dust emissions may be regulated as particulate matter (PM) depending on local environmental regulations. In certain regions, such environmental regulations are becoming increasingly stringent. Across its urea plants, TOYO has already implemented a proprietary scrubber tower system that reduces urea dust concentrations to below 30 mg/Nm³-Air*³ to minimize environmental impact. However, in pursuit of even lower emissions and higher environmental standards, TOYO will introduce AWS’s advanced WESP technology, which enables further reduction of urea dust concentrations to below 5 mg/Nm³-Air. Following pilot testing, TOYO has confirmed that AWS’s WESP demonstrates stable performance in actual plant exhaust air and offers superior dust removal capability, achieving urea dust concentrations under 5 mg/Nm³-Air. These results led to the signing of the collaboration agreement. Outline of the Agreement Through this agreement, TOYO and AWS have established a framework based on exclusive technical cooperation related to the application of WESP technology in urea plants. ● AWS will serve as TOYO’s exclusive technical partner, providing design and supply of WESP systems. ● TOYO will integrate the WESP into its urea production solutions to offer enhanced low-emission exhaust gas treatment systems. This collaboration enables TOYO to further strengthen its environmental performance offerings and aligns with its broader commitment to building a more sustainable society through the innovative technologies and global partnerships.
