What an insightful time at the World Jewellery Confederation - CIBJO Congress 2025 in Paris, hosted by Union Française de la Bijouterie, Joaillerie, Orfèvrerie, des Pierres et des Perles   Representing AMC Diamonds Choron Group, I truly enjoyed connecting with our stakeholders, clients, and friends from across the global jewellery industry. Delegates from 38 nations took the time to exchange on current trends, opportunities, and key challenges shaping our profession.   What particularly caught my attention was the quality of the opening speeches from industry leaders including Bernadette Pinet-Cuoq, who reminded us not only of the challenges our industry faces (terminology and compliance among them), but also of how fortunate we are to be part of such a “magnificent industry”, driven by a collective effort towards the future.   From the discussions, here are a few insights worth sharing: - Gold prices have reached record levels for two years, and consumers increasingly see gold as an investment opportunity. - Almost half of consumers would be willing to pay a premium for platinum. - Brands are becoming more selective about the fairs and events they attend… …and that’s exactly what we did at AMC Choron Group, focusing this year on GemGenève and the Jewellery & Gem World Hong Kong.   Looking forward to continuing the inspiring exchanges we started during this congress. CIBJO 2025 Congress: sharing, inspiring and promoting gemmology Last week, Le Laboratoire Français de Gemmologie and the Haute Ecole de Joaillerie were delighted to take an active part in the World Jewellery Confederation - CIBJO 2025 Congress, particularly in the ‘Education’ session, which focused on the future of training in jewellery and gemmology. This exchange between Kenneth Scarratt, Dean of the CIBJO Academy, and the directors of jewellery schools and gemmology laboratories highlighted a strong message: the transmission of knowledge is key to maintaining a transparent, responsible and sustainable sector through new educational formats and a broader discourse on the culture, origin and history of gemstones. 💎 Training means sharing a passion As Aurélien Delaunay, director of the LFG, pointed out, ‘gemmology education must nurture students' curiosity and passion. It is by revealing the beauty and uniqueness of each gem that we train the professionals of tomorrow.’ ‘Students' technical skills must also be continuously assessed,’ emphasises Michel Baldocchi, Director of the HEJ. This is why a wide variety of new jewellery and gemmology programmes exist in France, offering more choice to those wishing to enter or grow in this sector. The LFG and HEJ are proud to contribute to this collective international dynamic, where knowledge, transparency and excellence combine to advance the jewellery and gemmology professions. Honoured to have been invited to speak at the World Jewellery Confederation - CIBJO Congress in Paris, organised under the patronage of the President of France, where leaders from across the global jewellery industry gathered to discuss the future of our craft. I had the pleasure of joining the panel “A Focus on African Jewellery Retail”, alongside remarkable professionals Longo Mulaisho-Zinser, Rashmi Sharma, Molefi Letsiki, and Olajumoke Oluwatunmibi — and moderated with insight and generosity by Edward Johnson. Our discussion explored how Africa can move beyond being seen solely as a source of raw materials to becoming a source of creative inspiration, design excellence, and market growth. Nigeria, in particular, stands as a vivid example of this transformation — where heritage meets innovation, and where a new generation of collectors and creators is shaping the future of luxury. This conversation, I hope, is only the beginning of a longer journey — one that continues to challenge perceptions, celebrate craftsmanship, and build bridges between continents. Our founder took part in a dynamic panel discussion on African consumerism and the continent’s vast potential for value addition at source. Africa is not just a supplier — it’s a rising powerhouse of creativity, craftsmanship, and opportunity.
