We’re proud to share that Dotdotdot’s installation Data Bugs has been included in the #ADIDesignIndex 2025, the annual selection curated by the Osservatorio Permanente del Design ADI — one of the largest collectives of design experts, identifying the most innovative, meaningful, and sustainable projects of the year. All projects featured in the #Index automatically become contenders for the Compasso d’Oro, one of the most prestigious design awards world-wide, given every two years to just twenty projects. Data Bugs is an interactive installation that reveals both the generative potential and the biases of artificial intelligence. By comparing two AI models — one trained on a generic internet dataset, the other on a curated entomological archive — it shows how data quality profoundly impacts representation. Visitors activate the work by moving between eight totems, their bodies determining the genetic mix of synthetic insects in real time. Since its debut at Fuorisalone 2024, where it won the Interaction Award, Data Bugs has traveled the world. It was presented at the Nowness Film Festival in Shanghai and in Hangzhou where it received the Gold DIA Award and it was shown at HEK - Haus der Elektronischen Künste Basel in Basel and MU Hybrid Art House in Eindhoven, where it is currently on display during Dutch Design Week. By the end of the year, it will reach MEET Digital Culture Center in Milan. “Data Bugs’ huge success shows the power of design and of a meaningful use of technology in the creation of public awareness on current, pressing issues”, says Laura Dellamotta, our General Manager. On October 10, Laura Dellamotta and sara maniscalco were keynote speakers at an event dedicated to the architectural enhancement of the Cannero Castles on Lake Maggiore Terre Borromeo. Speaking to an audience of architects, they presented Cannero Walking Tales — an #immersive project that transformedthe historic site into an open-air museum. The project combined a context-aware audio guide for adults and children with #multimedia installations and augmented reality environments, all integrated into the regenerated architecture by Rino Salvatore Simonetti, commissioned by the #Borromeo Family. The congress was organized by the Ordine degli Architetti di Novara e Verbano-Cusio-Ossola, in collaboration with the Museo del Paesaggio and the Soprintendenza Archeologia, Belle Arti e Paesaggio for the province. WHAT FORMS OF #INTELLIGENCE EXIST? AND WHAT SIGNIFICANCE DO THEY HAVE FOR OUR UNDERSTANDING OF ECOLOGY AND SOCIETY? DATA BUGS – #AI is a Mirror is about to land at MU Hybrid Art House, Eindhoven, within the international group exhibition Other Intelligences. The exhibition explores intelligence beyond the human: artificial, technological, but also rooted in plants, animals, and other living systems. From the decentralized brain of the octopus to the collective strategies of ants, or the problem-solving skills of slime molds—nature itself questions our definition of intelligence. Together with 11 artists from around the world, Other Intelligences challenges us to rethink what intelligence means today, and how we can empathize with these different ways of knowing. For us at Dotdotdot, it is an invitation to look at intelligence differently—and to imagine new ways of living together. #ABOUT: AT MAG TO MAG Over the past two days, ABOUT: took part in the third edition of Mag to Mag – International Festival of Independent Magazines, organized by Frab's Magazines & More. Four months after its launch, Hearst Italia’s new editorial project is already establishing itself as an reference point in the world of #architecture. We at #Dotdotdot are the #Data Curators of ABOUT: we collect, analyze, and transform data into narratives that broaden the scope of design. Beyond economic or functional metrics, we bring forward indicators that speak of environmental well-being, biodiversity and quality of life. Directed by Alessandro Valenti, ABOUT: was born in Italy, building on a tradition of print magazines that reimagine architectural storytelling. Its graphic design, by international art director Kuchar Swara, features an oversized format and tactile paper, giving each issue a distinctive, collectible character. The first issue, “The #Collective”, presented at Mag to Mag alongside 84 other exhibitors, introduces a planet-centered approach that highlights the power of data as a tool for imagination—enabling possible futures and collective visions. Dotdotdot x TRECCANI100 | Palazzo Treccani in London – The Imaginary Museum of #Knowledge After its debut in Rome and Shanghai, “Palazzo Treccani” continues its international journey and opens at the Italian Cultural Institute in London. The exhibition celebrates the centenary of Treccani with a selection of manuscripts, Renaissance drawings, design objects and works of fine craftsmanship. At its heart lies the “Impossible Salon”, a #dialogue of voices and visions by Massimo Bray, Rita Levi Montalcini, Mimmo Paladino, Emilio Isgrò and Alessandro Mendini. Curated by Treccani and designed by #Dotdotdot, with the support of the Italian Ministry of Culture, the Central Institute for Archives and Intesa Sanpaolo, the exhibition unfolds as an evolving Palace of Knowledge, designed to connect #cultures, #languages and #perspectives across borders. #DATA BEYOND #VIZ There is so much more that design studios can do with data beyond simple visualization. Data can become a narrative tool, a resource for museums and institutions to strengthen governance, a catalyst for #public awareness on contemporary issues, and even a driver of key decisions in design projects. We call this discipline Data #Curation - and today our colleagues Martina Esposito and Davide Bruno had the pleasure of sharing its potential and our Dotdotdot portfolio as Data Curators in a lecture and workshop with the students of the Master in Art Management at Luiss Business School in Rome.
