EcocNews, with its editor-in-chief Mariateresa Cascino and founder Serafino Paternoster, participated in the 15th Culture Next conference held in Biesko Biala (Poland), the national capital of culture in 2026. For several years, Bielsko Biala has been focusing its work on the effects that culture, art and creativity have on people's health and well-being. The Culture Next conference developed around this theme. EcocNews produced a report on its web magazine and on Rai Italia's international programme “Paparazzi”, dedicated to Italians living around the world. We would like to thank the programme's authors and presenters, Filippo Solibello and Marco Ardemagni, and the whole team for this valuable opportunity. All News about national and european capitals of culture
Chi siamo
Hello, we are a group of journalists who have decided to make their experience and skills available to the European Capitals of Culture through EcocNews.com, the web newspaper online from 1st February 2021. It is a space for information on the activities of all National capitals of culture, all European Capitals of Culture, the candidate cities and those that have earned the title, and on everything related to this extraordinary program, even from a regulatory point of view. We believe that after 35 years from the beginning of this adventure about Ecoc, it has become necessary to build a virtual home of the European Capitals of Culture where to exchange news, where to discuss cultural programs also to define the aspects that can be improved. We believe that this space is even more important in a complex time like the one we are all going through and where digital strategy can really help us to build relationships, define new ideas in the exclusive general interest of European culture and European citizens. But the activities of EcocNews.com do not stop there. The goal is also to save, in a special section of the site, all the documents, bid books, and reports of the jury of the different cities participating in this challenge. In this way, their extraordinary work does not go to waste when the competition or the Ecoc year has ended. The editorial team is made up of journalists who have already had experience with the national and international communication of various cultural programs. Experiences that have allowed us to fully understand the secrets of this job. We believe it is an opportunity for everyone, for all cities, for culture, for creative industries, for citizens, and above all for our whole dear Europe.

One year with Culture Action Europe ✨ It’s hard to believe a year has already passed. From day one, I’ve felt trusted, supported, and encouraged to grow - I truly couldn't dream of a better team! Here I have the chance to work on inspiring European projects with a fantastic extended team — both in the CultureAndHealth Platform and the CARE project. I’m looking forward to the exciting time ahead: Meeting more inspiring people, organising meaningful events, and continuing to work with colleagues who have grown so close to me. And just as much, I cherish the moments beyond work — the shared dinners, the laughter, and the sense of belonging. Here’s to another year of learning, connection, arts, culture and well-being 🎉

Pariisin Petit Palais’ssa avautui eilen upea Pekka Halosen näyttely, yhteistyössä Ateneumin kanssa. Kontio oli tehnyt upean hirsisalin Halosenniemen hengessä. Kulttuuri-ja tiedeministeri Mari-Leena Talvitie avasi näyttelyn, Oulu2026:n lahja avajaisvieraille oli Mieskuoro Huutajien vaikuttava esitys. Kiinnostus Suomea kohtaan on Ranskassa nyt vahvaa, toivottavasti moni innostuu lähtemään Suomeen - ja tietenkin tutustumaan Oulu2026 - European Capital of Culture 2026 ohjelmaan ensi vuonna. 𝐍𝐢𝐤𝐬𝐢𝐜 𝐰𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐛𝐞 𝐄𝐮𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐚𝐧 𝐂𝐚𝐩𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐥 𝐨𝐟 𝐂𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝟐𝟎𝟑𝟎 Niksic (Montenegro) will be one of the three European Capitals of Culture in 2030. This was announced today by the chair of the European Commission's evaluation panel, Hrvoje Laurenta. Lviv (Ukraine), the other city on the shortlist, did not make the cut. Niksic will share the title with Leuven (Belgium) and one of the two cities in Cyprus on the shortlist, Larnaca or Limassol. We wish Niksic all the best, confident that it has put together an excellent application dossier. However, we also hope that Lviv will become European Capital of Culture at the earliest opportunity, without any competition, as we are convinced that this title will certainly not make us forget the horrors of an unjust war. But it would already be a small but important step forward.

🌿 Registration & Open Call now open! Conference - Culture & Care: A Joint Call for Change Leuven, 26–27 Feb 2026 How can culture and care work together to create new ways of care that meet today’s complex social challenges? Two great days in Brussels! 🇪🇺 Yesterday, we hosted Cultural Climate of Curiosity together with Trenčín2026 — an evening celebrating the creativity and spirit behind next year’s European Capitals of Culture. The event at Plein Publiek offered a wonderful mix of introductions, artistic interventions, and music, featuring a captivating Xulu202x -performance by Antti Uimonen and Viivi Forsman, and live music by Lash&Grey Duo. Warm thanks to our partners — the Permanent Representations of Finland and Slovakia to the EU, the Embassy of Finland in Brussels and the Finnish Cultural Institute for the Benelux — and to everyone who joined this exciting evening! The day before, we took part in the 1st Culture Next Policy Summit at the European Parliament — new annual meeting connecting the cultural sector with Members of the European Parliament. The summit gathered networks, policymakers, and cultural leaders to discuss a new European Capitals of Culture framework, a cultural compass for Europe, and an SDG for Culture. We were happy to present the key milestones of the Oulu2026 - European Capital of Culture 2026 year and to invite everyone to join us in Oulu next year to experience the Cultural Climate Change in action. Two days filled with connection, creativity, and collaboration — the Cultural Climate of Curiosity keeps growing. See you in Oulu and Trenčín in 2026! #Oulu2026 #Trenčín2026 #EuropeanCapitalsOfCulture #CulturalClimateOfCuriosity #CultureNext #PolicySummit #Brussels #Culture

+++ 𝐌𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐚 𝟐𝟎𝟑𝟏, 𝐕𝐢𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐚 𝐰𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐛𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐄𝐮𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐚𝐧 𝐂𝐚𝐩𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐥 𝐨𝐟 𝐂𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 +++ Victoria will be Malta's European Capital of Culture in 2031. It will share the title with one of the 12 Spanish cities that have decided to apply. It was a quick process for Malta. In fact, there were only two candidate cities, Birgu and Victoria. In Sweden, there were also only two candidate cities. But while in Sweden the evaluation panel decided to put both on the shortlist, in Malta the independent jury has already effectively chosen the European Capital of Culture. The news was announced by jury member Suvi Innilä following a two-day pre-selection meeting held at the Valletta Design Cluster, where an independent jury of experts appointed by the European Commission and national authorities examined the applications submitted by the two Maltese cities. 45 miast z całej Europy, mówcy z Australii, Japonii i innych krajów, ponad 100 zadowolonych uczestników i 10 lokalizacji konferencyjnych w ciągu 3 dni. A lekcja, którą z niej wynoszę? Jeśli naprawdę chcesz coś zrobić — czasem warto po prostu cierpliwie i pokornie poczekać. PS Creative Europe dziękujemy za dofinansowanie sieci! Dziękuję partnerom: Agencja Rozwoju Regionalnego S.A.
