Last week I was back in #Tokyo for #RegenerAction2025 with my friends at Tokyo Tatemono Co., Ltd. and Future Food Institute. I've been reflecting, and one of the things I think they do really well in Japan is embrace the #RegenerativeMindset , which is percolating through many aspects of life including business models and cities. One of the things I find really interesting is how heritage is being linked into and celebrated as part of #regeneration, whilst being enhanced with ultra-modern thinking and technology. #Innovation is very much a part of the regenerative movement in Japan and it is being used to build a better future... Read on if you are interested in my ponderings about cities 🏙️ and fish 🐟 Toshikazu Sawa Shintaro N. Sara Roversi Alessandro Fusco Ryan Edwards Todd Porter Eric Ezechieli Kwanphil Cho

“Smart made us faster, but not wiser.” With this powerful line, #FeliciaJackson captures the essence of the shift we’re living through. Her brilliant Forbes article — “Beyond Smart Cities: The Rise of Regenerative Urbanism” — tells the story of how cities, from #Tokyo to #Pollica, are becoming living laboratories where technology alone is no longer enough. Because what our world needs most today is to regenerate — to rebuild relationships between people, nature, and community. The “smart city” model helped us optimize, but the next frontier is to restore. To create the conditions for life — human, ecological, cultural — to thrive again. That’s the spirit behind the Regenerative Cities Manifesto, born from the collaboration between the Future Food Institute and Tokyo Tatemono Co., Ltd., and nurtured every day in the heart of the Mediterranean, at our Paideia Campus in Pollica A heartfelt thank you to Felicia Jackson for giving voice to this global movement, and for capturing the deep humanity behind regeneration. Felicia, I can’t wait to continue this dialogue — whether among the olive trees of Pollica, walking through the ruins of Magna Graecia where Parmenides once laid the foundations of modern thought, on the boats of our heroic fishermen who protect the Mediterranean, or inside the living lab pulsing at the heart of one of the world’s most futuristic metropolises — Tokyo. — to explore how our cities can once again become places where life flourishes A special thank you to Toshikazu Sawa for his visionary leadership, and to the incredible teams at Tokyo Tatemono Co., Ltd. and the Future Food Institute — Alessandro Fusco, Virginia Cepollina, and all our partners and companions Shintaro N. Ryan Edwards Lucy Wallace Eric Ezechieli — for believing in this journey and for choosing to co-create a regenerative future. Your courage to reimagine value, to bridge cultures and generations, and to put life — not only profit — at the center of design, is what truly turns ideas into impact. 📖 Read the full Forbes article: Beyond Smart Cities: The Rise Of Regenerative Urbanism https://lnkd.in/ej6zMrEh Andrea Magelli Matteo Vignoli Camilla Carioli Riccardo Luna #RegenerativeCities #FutureFoodInstitute #PaideiaCampus #TokyoTatemono #IntegralEcology #UrbanRegeneration #MediterraneanLifestyle #ClimateAction

#RAJ2025 🇯🇵 Regeneraction Japan How far we’ve come since the first encounter at our Scuderia - Future Food Living Lab in Bologna and the inaugural #sksjapan in 2018 — milestones that marked the beginning of a long, meaningful collaboration bridging innovation, roots, science, entrepreneurship, and regeneration. It’s moving to look back and see how much we’ve been able to spark, learn, inspire... growing together! 2019 // We began this journey — before the world changed... before #covid19 Seeds of curiosity, courage, and collaboration were quietly planted 2020 // The #KyobashiLivingLab came to life. #TokyoFoodScape research was presented... And in the same breath, #Pollica entered our world — gently but deeply entering into a cracked, well-established, global system — transforming us with its Mediterranean wisdom and the spirit of integral ecology... 2021 // #RegenerAction in Pollica took its very first breath A new movement began to rise... from the heart of the Mediterranean to the shores of Japan... 2022 // We brought the conversation full circle with the #FutureFoodCircle on #Regeneration in Japan. Two cultures, one shared mission: to turn innovation into regeneration... 2023 // The first Japanese delegation joined us in Pollica. The idea of a #RegenerActionJapan chapter came to life. And the #regeneractors program was born — empowering new leaders of transformation. 2024 // We unveiled #RegenerativeCityTokyo and co-created the #RegenerativeCitiesManifesto. Together, we shaped a vision bold enough to inspire cities around the world. 2025 // witnessed our shared commitment during #ClimateWeekNYC And today, here in Tokyo, as RegenerAction Japan 2025 concludes, we celebrate not an ending — but a living proof of what collaboration, trust, and shared purpose can create ... not alone but with many friends and partners Ryan Edwards Naked InnovationsLucy Wallace Eric Ezechieli NATIVA Kwanphil Cho Todd Porter .. and many more 😉 From Pollica to Tokyo, #regeneration has become our common language — and our movement for the future. And in these days, on stage, we’ve truly touched with our hands how much has been built. The ecosystem is growing. The movement is taking shape. And the pictures and overall this video… is pure wonder. Thank you, Toshikazu Sawa Shintaro N. "Before we build the next app for well-being, let's learn from the original 'technology' of care: the Mediterranean Diet. It teaches us that the future of the Care Economy lies in integrating food, community, and culture", Matteo Vignoli, co-founder of Future Food Institute, at the Technology Innovation Forum 2025 in Thailand, shared how the Mediterranean Diet can serve as a blueprint for a resilient Care Economy — a model that reconnects people, planet, and prosperity. Alongside his keynote, Matteo led a hands-on workshop on The Regenerative Blueprint: Designing Waste-to-Value Systems in the Food Economy, where participants from government, finance, and industry reimagined food system waste as a strategic resource. Drawing on insights from the Future Food Institute’s research on regenerative food systems, the session applied Mediterranean principles of circular living to Thai value chains, guiding participants to co-design new ventures that transform waste into opportunity. During his visit, he also explored two inspiring Thai SMEs: Dairy Home, the country’s first organic dairy farm, leading the way toward net-zero by 2050. GranMonte Winery, which pioneered the first IGP in the Khao Yai region under Thailand’s first certified female oenologist. These encounters revealed a shared vision: that regeneration begins when innovation meets care — for people, land, and tradition. Thailand Management Association-TMA (Official)
