#GCInternshipStories Matthijs Mantel, alumnus of the Arab Master in Democracy and Human Rights (#GCArabWorld), interned with Earshot Investigations Ltd. Matthijs contributed to sonic investigations addressing state and environmental injustices. He supported a major investigation into the alleged use of a sound weapon in Belgrade, analyzing audio from 19 videos, processing 3,000+ statements, and shaping 15 earwitness interviews for a report published in June. He also assisted with fundraising proposals for IFPIM and Luminate, researching independent journalism funding. His supervisor praised his "intellectual curiosity and adaptability," noting his valuable contributions to key documents. Great work, Matthijs, for advancing human rights through innovative investigations! The GC Internship Programme is designed for top recent graduates from the GC’s regional programmes. We’re grateful to our alumni Anand Deo and Juan José Guzmán for sharing their insights yesterday on creating impactful human rights projects. 🌍 Juan is member of the funding team of Fundación Mecenas in Chile, and Anand is founder of the Ananda Foundation in India. We heard inspiring stories of how they each turned a problem into an opportunity, drew on their passions and lived experiences, engaged with their communities, and brought meaningful initiatives to life. They also shared how they tackled the challenges they faced and addressed common issues encountered by anyone starting their own initiative. Our third workshop in the GCA Careers Orientation 2025 focused on a decisive step in every career journey: the interview. 🎓💬 Led once again by Niamh Walsh, EMA alumna and career coach, the session gathered alumni eager to refine their communication and self-presentation skills. Niamh guided participants through common and challenging interview questions, helping them clarify their priorities and prepare for the overall process. Our alumni continue the conversation on the Rights of Future Generations. Following the event “The Rights of Future Generations: A Multidimensional Panel on Environment, Digital Protection and Children’s Rights” at the University of Sarajevo’s Centre for Interdisciplinary Studies, we are proud to present a new blog series authored by distinguished ERMA Alumni: Desara Dushi, Ph.D., Dr. jur. Albana Xh. Hana, Margareta Rončević, and Valmira Morina. #EMAInternshipStories Esnath Chambiwa, alumna of GC Europe (EMA), interned with UNICEF Eastern and Southern Africa Regional Office in Nairobi, Kenya, within the Child Protection team. Esnath supported the Child Rights portfolio, coordinating regional webinars and sessions that trained over 300 staff on child rights. She designed training content, developed quarterly newsletters, drafted a cross-sectoral advocacy paper on child rights pushbacks, created monitoring tools like surveys and quizzes, reviewed policy briefs, supported global justice for children courses, facilitated engagement of 50 grassroots organizations with the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child, and managed knowledge on the team’s internal website. Her supervisor noted: "Esnath has shown remarkable professionalism, dedication, and insight, playing a key role in advancing our regional child rights agenda... Her collaborative spirit and commitment to children’s rights have been truly commendable." Esnath recommends this internship as a great entry point into the UN, especially once organizational restructuring stabilizes, highlighting Nairobi's vibrant diplomatic hub. Well done, Esnath, for your dedicated efforts in building capacities for child rights!
