🚀 Flashes from the #Biomethaverse Pilot Sites: advancing the future of biomethane. The Biomethaverse project is driving innovation in biomethane production across Europe. Here’s a snapshot of the latest progress from the pilot sites: France: The first liters of biomethane from the demo plant in France have been produced via the electromethanogenesis pilot and successfully injected into the ENGIE BiOZ unit in Les Coevron. Italy: The Ex-Situ Biomethanation plant is running smoothly. Reactor A (attached biomass) and Reactor B (suspended biomass) have been operating continuously for over three months. Experiments on venting patterns and H₂/CO₂ ratios are tested to maximise process efficiency and enhance hydrogen consumption. Preliminary results show promising improvements for system performance. Greece: At the BLAG ETM demo, construction is well underway. The pilot container is in place, civil works are wrapping up, and core process equipment is being assembled. Thermal management, automation, and safety systems are being fine-tuned to ensure stable, efficient operations from day one. Sweden: The methanation pilot at Cortus’s Höganäs gasification plant successfully demonstrated 1,300 hours of biological methanation with high methane content. Further trials were unfortunately cancelled following Cortus’s bankruptcy, but valuable learnings remain. Ukraine: Ukrainian biomethane has started reaching European markets, opening strategic pathways for economic growth, energy diversification, and regional energy independence. Expanding the local market remains a priority, contingent on post-war recovery.
