The Magna Charta Observatory is a signatories’ association, independent from political organisations or interest groups. The signatory universities – through their rectors, presidents and vice-chancellors, who act on behalf of their institutions – are connected to the organization by their commitment, present and future, to comply with the principles of the Magna Charta Universitatum. The Magna Charta Observatory undertakes its work to ensure the integrity of intellectual and scientific work in Institutions and society, thus reinforcing trust in relationship between universities and their communities, be they local, regional, national or global.

The Magna Charta Observatory Essay Competition 2025 invited students worldwide to reflect on the question: “How might your university engage more effectively with stakeholders both to improve access to higher education for all and enhance the learning experience of students?” From 94 essays submitted by students in 37 countries, five winners were selected: Bella Subin Kang, University of Toronto (Canada) Harleen Kaur, University of Toronto (Canada) Meghan Lai, McGill University (Canada) Okechukwu Izuchukwu, University of Uyo (Nigeria) Hajra Raheel, Lahore University of Management Sciences (Pakistan) The following students were Highly Commended: Nazifa Popal, Moraa Educational Complex(Afghanistan) Anushka Basu, DVA International School Ahmedabad (India) Nathaniel Ajiboye, University of Ilorin (Nigeria) Haseeb Ahmad, University of Education, Lahore – Jauharabad Campus (Pakistan) These essays contribute valuable perspectives on how universities can strengthen engagement with stakeholders to broaden access to higher education and enrich the student learning experience.
