♻️From Spain to Germany, from Estonia to Italy — our four pilots brought circular ambitions to life with real-world action. Each site tested innovative solutions to boost the reuse, refurbishment, and recycling of small electronics and household appliances, paving the way for a more sustainable Europe. 📍 Discover what each pilot achieved: 🔹 Seville (Spain) – Launched community-driven reuse models https://lnkd.in/eJEmUsHU 🔹 Tallinn (Estonia) – Applied smart systems for traceability https://lnkd.in/esn-HmFk 🔹 Sulzbach-Rosenberg (Germany) – Deployed industrial pre-treatment for reuse https://lnkd.in/euA9xpGe 🔹 Eco-point (Italy) – Developed an integrated drop-off & awareness hub https://lnkd.in/dApKbnz6 🌐 Explore each pilot and see how the #RENEWProject made circularity happen, one city at a time. #circulareconomy #PCB Project supporter: EIT RawMaterials Project partners: Atlantic Copper Erion Fraunhofer UMSICHT KU Leuven TalTech – Tallinn University of Technology Treee Srl
RENEW Project
Servizi ambientali
RENEW aims at reducing the carbon footprint of the recycling of the Printed Circuit Boards (PCBs) contained in WEEE
Chi siamo
Printed Circuit Boards (PCBs) contain significant amounts of recoverable secondary raw materials, such as copper, gold, silver, platinum and palladium: their recycling is nowadays strategic because of their scarcity or inhomogeneous distribution on Earth, and because of the economic role they play for countries. The RENEW project aims at validating technologies that allow the separation of these metals from plastic, as well as the study and validation of technologies for the recovery of the separated plastic. In fact, the production of plastic is responsible for 3.8% of global CO2 emissions, and this rate is estimated to rise to 13% by 2050: recycling is then the best option to produce this material, since manufacturing 1 kg of it generates 3.5 kg of CO2, while manufacturing the same amount of recycled plastic only generates 1.7 kg of CO2. Acting at the beginning of the chain, a part of the project is dedicated to the test of innovative eco-points aimed at increasing the collection of WEEE.

On 28 November, took place in Seville the last Consortium Meeting of the European RENEW Project. The event, hosted by Atlantic Copper, offered the opportunity to explore their innovative pilot plant and to learn more about the progress and results achieved. 🤖 The partners had the opportunity to take a close look at a cutting-edge technology: the process of mechanically separating epoxy resin from precious metals. ♻️ This precise and sustainable solution marks a decisive step towards optimising the recovery of critical resources from end-of-life electronic devices, actively contributing to the achievement of a full circular economy. 🌱The meeting was not only limited to technical aspects: the working sessions reinforced the participants' common vision, celebrating three years of activities under the common RENEW banner, while renewing the commitment to a more sustainable future. 📷 Browse the gallery and if you want to discover more about the project, visit the website! www.renewproject.eu #circulareconomy #recycling #WEEE #ewaste #PCB #CriticalRawMaterials Project supporter: EIT RawMaterials Project partners: Atlantic Copper Erion Fraunhofer UMSICHT KU Leuven TalTech – Tallinn University of Technology Treee Srl

The 19th Biennial Conference on Electronics and Embedded Systems was held last month in Tallinn, Estonia, with the special participation of Artur Klauson (TalTech – Tallinn University of Technology) and Pooya Hosseini (KU Leuven). ➡️ The aim of the Conference is to promote research and development in the field, particularly in the Baltic Sea region. ♻️This year’s edition looked into green and dependable electronic systems and devices. Such technologies help address some major global challenges facing our societies: climate change, sustainability, urbanization, health, and well-being. An objective shared with the Renew project, that aims to validate technological solutions leading to a reduction of the carbon footprint of the e-waste recycling system, representing an improvement in the recovery of critical materials and precious metals, as well as, enhancing plastics recycling.
