🌟 Meet The Speaker 🌟 Prof. JosAnn Cutajar is the Head of Department, Gender and Sexualities at the Faculty for Social Well-Being, University of Malta 🇲🇹. She is a lecturer in the Gender and Sexualities Department and brings over 20 years of professional experience as a gender and community development expert 👩🏫. From 2017 to 2020, JosAnn served as the coordinator for the Consultative Council for Women’s Rights within the Ministry for Justice, Equality and Governance ⚖️. Between 2012 and 2017, she helped establish the Cottonera Resource Centre at the University of Malta, a university outreach post in a socially deprived area. This initiative was recognized with the 2016 EPALE Award for community engagement 🏆. Her publications focus on community development and issues relating to gender and social justice 📚. She has also been involved in several EU projects, including: GEPARD (Erasmus+), GenderAction (Horizon 2020), reSEArch-EU (Horizon 2020) 🇪🇺 Since 2020, as co-Chair of the Gender Equality and Sexual Diversity Committee, she has contributed to the design and implementation of the University of Malta’s Equity Plan 🌈. ✨ SD4EU Seminar in Malta – 30 October 2025 ✨ Exploring strategies to close the gender pay gap and ensure equal pay across Europe The Malta seminar will open with institutional addresses and an introduction by Martina Gherlenda, SD4EU Project Manager at Confprofessioni, followed by a presentation of key findings from the Gender Pay Gap and Equal Pay Working Group by Diana Larenza. Keynote speeches from the National Statistics Office, Joslyn Magro and Lara Xiberras, and Prof. JosAnn Cutajar from the University of Malta will provide insights on labour market data and gender dynamics. Lara Ann Xiberras Senior Statistician | National Statistics Office (Malta) 🇲🇹 Lara Ann Xiberras is a Senior Statistician at the National Statistics Office (NSO) of Malta, working within the Labour Market and Information Society Statistics Unit. Her work focuses on labour market and earnings statistics, with particular expertise in the Gender Pay Gap and the Labour Force Survey. She has contributed to the enhancement of statistical methodologies and data integration processes within the NSO, strengthening the quality and consistency of official statistics. On 13 October, the European Parliament’s FEMM Committee adopted the 2025 Gender Equality Strategy report, laying the foundation for the 2026–2030 EU strategy. The report calls for ambitious, binding actions across all areas of EU policy, with an intersectional approach addressing discrimination against women, LGBTIQ+ people, migrants, people with disabilities, and minority groups. Last week in Rome, we had the privilege of hosting the European seminar “Social Protection and Gender Equality,” the first milestone of the SD4EU – Social Dialogue for a Union of Equality project, coordinated by Confprofessioni and co-funded by the European Union. The seminar brought together experts, policymakers, and practitioners from across Europe to discuss critical issues such as pay equity, transparency in salaries, work-life balance, and female leadership. Through inspiring keynote speeches and interactive sessions, participants shared experiences, best practices, and innovative approaches to advancing gender equality in professional and social contexts. The discussions highlighted how promoting gender equality is not only a matter of fairness but also a strategic driver of innovation, inclusivity, and sustainable growth.
