Da italiano, sostenitore convinto di questo Paese e del suo potenziale nel contribuire al successo dell’Europa, è stato un piacere partecipare al Made in Italy Summit. È evidente che l’Italia – e UniCredit – possono e devono avere un ruolo centrale e attivo nella trasformazione economica del continente. Banche forti e radicate nei territori sono essenziali per liberare potenziale, sostenere famiglie e imprese, e costruire un futuro resiliente. L’Europa ha tutto per guidare: competenze, manifattura, creatività, innovazione. Ma senza rafforzare settori chiave – banche, mercati dei capitali, energia, difesa – rischiamo di non esprimere appieno il nostro potenziale. L’Italia deve essere al centro di questo processo. Avere troppo capitale europeo fermo nei risparmi è controproducente. Servono strumenti migliori per trasformarlo in crescita. Terza economia dell’UE, porta naturale al mercato unico, patria di aziende capaci di competere globalmente, l’Italia può guidare la competitività europea. In UniCredit abbiamo dimostrato che una banca con radici italiane può affermarsi in Europa. Il nostro modello federale ci lega alle comunità locali, offrendo valore nei mercati in cui operiamo. Credo che l’Italia possa fare lo stesso e ispirare una visione di Europa unita e forte. L’Europa ha bisogno di attori solidi per affrontare le sfide. L’Italia può essere uno di questi. Il momento di agire è adesso. As an Italian, a champion of this country, and a firm believer in its potential to contribute to overall European success, it was a pleasure to speak at the Made in Italy Summit. It is clear to me that Italy, and UniCredit, can – and must – take a central and active role in leading Europe’s economic transformation. Strong, locally rooted banks are essential to unlocking potential, supporting families and businesses, and building a resilient future. Europe has everything it needs to lead: expertise, manufacturing, creativity, innovation. But unless we strengthen key sectors such as banking, capital markets, energy and defence, we risk falling short of our true potential. Italy should be at the heart of this transformation. For example, having too much of Europe’s capital in savings is unproductive. We need better tools to convert them into growth. Italy, as the EU’s third-largest economy, a natural gateway to the single market, and home to companies capable of competing globally, can take action and lead the way for European competitiveness. At UniCredit, we’ve shown that a bank with roots in Italy can thrive on the European stage. Our federal model means we are deeply embedded in local communities, offering value to stakeholders in markets across Europe. I believe Italy can do more of this and lead the way in a vision for a united and economically powerful Europe. Europe needs strong players to face what lies ahead. Italy can be one of them. A full conversion of derivatives to reach a direct stake of c.29.5% would impact CET1 by ~-80 bps, as previously communicated ➡️ Once approval by National Competent Authorities for the indirect holdings is obtained, the current 9.8% direct stake will be equity consolidated with immaterial capital absorption. 🌍 We believe in Greece’s positive outlook.
