At the University of Bologna (Alma Mater Studiorum – Università di Bologna) and within the 🔸 WiLab laboratory of CNIT 🔸 , we have been conducting research toward smarter and safer roads for more than twenty years, and we are proud to be members of the Car 2 Car Communication Consortium. Our work anticipates industrial deployment, driving innovation in V2X and addressing future challenges. Our work goes from theory to field tests. We carry out theoretical studies to envision what comes next, as this is one of the core missions of universities (you may have heard about #ISAC, digital twins, predictive quality of service...). At the same time, we run large-scale simulations in realistic scenarios, and we strive to make our simulators open source, as we strongly believe in open science. Whenever possible, we also perform field experiments, since we consider them an essential part of the research process. Finally, we actively contribute to standardization efforts, because we want our ideas to play a role in 🔸 the V2X revolution that is arriving 🔸 . We are eager to contribute to the success of the Car 2 Car Forum and look forward to meeting everyone who is driving in our same direction. We put all our effort into this mission, 💥 let’s save as many lives as we can! 💥 #C2CForum #V2X, CNIT - Consorzio Nazionale Interuniversitario per le Telecomunicazioni, #WiLab #Car2X, European Commission, ETSI Visit the C2C Forum 2025: https://lnkd.in/e63StVcT

Extending Connectivity via UAV, LoRaWAN & 5G As WiLab, we developed a PoC for CTE COBO to extend connectivity to a buoy located in the middle of the dock at Ravenna port. The system integrates UAV, LoRaWAN, and 5G to monitor a buoy equipped with an Astreo amperometric sensor, which transmits data via LoRaWAN at regular intervals regarding the buoy’s status. The system combines: - Drone payload: LoRaWAN gateway + Raspberry Pi, enabling on-board data processing and eliminating the need for external resources; - Real-time access via a private 5G network (OAIBOX 40 + Quectel modem), allowing control from the ground; - Wi-Fi backup through the LoRaWAN gateway network, useful for comparison and ensuring operational continuity. This project demonstrates the feasibility of portable, lightweight, and autonomous solutions for remote monitoring in complex environments, integrating edge computing and advanced connectivity.
