A new milestone in skills development and youth empowerment was marked at the Kyambogo University Business Incubation Center, where the AICAD – Kyambogo Bakery and Confectionery Training was officially launched. The training was officially opened by Dr. Kedrace Turyagyenda, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education and Sports - Uganda Secondary Education Expansion Project (USEEP), who also serves as the Chairperson of the AICAD Governing Board. The Vice Chancellor of Kyambogo University, was ably represented by Assoc. Prof. Justus Kwetegyeka, Deputy Vice Chancellor (Finance and Administration), who reaffirmed the university’s commitment to innovation, entrepreneurship, and community engagement. This collaborative initiative between AICAD and Kyambogo University aims to equip participants with hands-on skills in bakery and confectionery production, enhancing self-employment, business creation, and value addition in the food industry. On 27th October 2025, Mr. Leonard Bett, Deputy Chief State Counsel from the State Department for Blue Economy and Fisheries, visited the African Institute for Capacity Development (AICAD). The African Institute for Capacity Development (AICAD) Governing Board members, led by Dr. Kedrace Turyagyenda, took time during their visit to Uganda to explore key cultural and educational landmarks, including the Uganda Martyrs Shrine in Namugongo and the Uganda Wildlife Conservation Education Centre (Entebbe Zoo). 🇺🇬 At the Martyrs Shrine, members reflected on Uganda’s rich Christian heritage and the enduring values of faith, resilience, and service that continue to inspire generations across East Africa. The experience offered a deeper appreciation of Uganda’s historical journey and its influence on the nation’s educational and social fabric. Later, at the Wildlife Conservation Education Centre, the Board had a firsthand encounter with Uganda’s diverse wildlife and conservation initiatives. The African Institute for Capacity Development (AICAD) is holding its Governing Board Meeting today, 23rd October 2025, at the Grand Imperial Hotel in Kampala, Uganda. The meeting is graced by Dr. Kedrace Turyagyenda, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education and Sports - Uganda Secondary Education Expansion Project (USEEP), who will also officially assume the position of Chairperson of the AICAD Governing Board. Dr. Turyagyenda takes over from Prof. Carolyne Nombo, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, United Republic of Tanzania, who is ably being represented by Eng. Tabitha Etutu. The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Kenya, Dr. Beatrice Inyangala, was also represented by Mr. James Muchiri. The sessions are also being attended by the Executive Director of AICAD, Prof. James Njiru, who expressed appreciation for the continued support from member states and reiterated AICAD’s commitment to advancing its mission of empowering communities through knowledge, innovation, and sustainable development.
