Since 5 November, local restrictions have been implemented in Herat province,Afghanistan requiring female patients, caretakers, and staff to wear a burqa to enter public health facilities, including at Herat hospital. This sudden enforcement adds limitations to their participation in everyday life and puts additional barriers that affect women’s ability to access essential healthcare. In the last two days under this new enforcement, Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), which supports paediatric services inside Herat Regional Hospital, has already observed a 28% drop in admissions of patients whose conditions are urgent. Médecins Sans Frontières/Doctors Without Borders is an international, independent, medical humanitarian organisation.
About us
MSF medical teams work in more than 70 countries to provide lifesaving assistance where it is needed the most. In 2019, 65,000 people worked with MSF in conflicts, epidemics, following natural disasters and where people would not otherwise have access to medical care. We work according to principles of independence, neutrality and impartiality; providing assistance to people who need it the most, regardless of who they are, where they come from, their political or religious beliefs. The organisation has some of its largest medical projects across East Africa including in Sudan, South Sudan, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Ethiopia, Somalia and Burundi. In these countries, MSF runs hospitals, health centres and mobile clinics and launches emergency projects as spikes in healthcare needs arise.

The MSF emergency teams reached Jamaica last weekend and are actively assessing the most imminent needs following the massive destruction that Hurricane Melissa left behind. The teams are reaching the most remote areas where people have been completely cut off due to road damage mainly and massive damage in regional hospitals and healthcare centres. In the meantime, a full MSF cargo shipment has been sent from Brussels and reached Jamaica yesterday with medical supplies, NFIs, tarpaulins and necessary material. MSF teams will start working in St. James Parish and in St. Elisabeth Parish in the west area of Jamaica. A few activities have already been carried out in St. Elisabeth parish while assessments were carried out Read more👇 https://bit.ly/4nLwFr4 #MSF

Saira, 60 years old, was injured in the recent earthquake and was brought from Feroz Nakhchir in Samangan province to the MSF Trauma Centre in Kunduz. Two bones in her leg were broken due to a fall. Her son says, "My mother was sleeping when the earthquake happened. My brother called her to wake up. She tried to get up but suddenly fell to the floor and broke her leg." The family wanted to take her to Mazar-i-Sharif city, which is near their home, for treatment, but the roads were blocked, so they stayed home overnight. In the morning, Saira was brought to MSF Trauma Centre in Kunduz. Doctors admitted her after assessing her condition, and she will undergo surgeries for external fixation. © Abdul Amin Shinwary /MSF #MSF

SUDAN: "Given the state of people who escaped and made it barely alive to Tawila, it’s clear that they are in urgent need of medical and nutritional care, psychosocial assistance, shelter, water, and humanitarian assistance in general." - Dr Livia Tampellini, MSF’s deputy head of emergencies. Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) denounces the horrendous mass atrocities and killings, both indiscriminate and ethnically-targeted, that have culminated this week in and around El Fasher. We reiterate our fear that large numbers of people remain in grave danger and are being prevented by the Rapid Support Forces and its allies from reaching safer areas, such as Tawila where we work. #TalkAboutSudan

On 31 October 2025, Médecins Sans Frontières / Doctors Without Borders (MSF) withdrew from Salamabila, in Maniema, eastern DRC. This withdrawal is not a change of course, but an acceleration of the withdrawal process planned since the project began. During the seven years of intervention in Salamabila, MSF teams, in support of local health authorities, treated 16,445 victims of sexual violence, vaccinated 113,000 children against measles, treated 411,000 cases of malaria and cared for 26,817 children suffering from acute malnutrition. Between 2019 and 2024, the maternal mortality rate was reduced twentyfold, and the malaria mortality rate was halved. Within local communities, MSF has trained 13 reproductive health workers to care for survivors of sexual violence, and more than 100 health workers to detect the symptoms of malaria and provide treatment. “Despite the tangible impact of our intervention since 2018, the scale of multisectoral needs remains immense,” explains Moussa. MSF calls on local actors and authorities to guarantee access to healthcare and to facilitate safe access and the distribution of humanitarian aid in Maniema.
