Article Processing Fee (APC) Support

The following agreements and organizational memberships reduce fees for UW authors to publish Open Access (OA) in several publications. Please note:

UW Libraries has no central fund to finance APCs for individual articles.
For detailed information, please consult these publishers’ policies.
Use your @uw.edu email during the submission process so these publishers will know you are eligible for discounts as a UW author.
If your journal is not listed here, you may be able to deposit your accepted manuscript in UW’s repository ResearchWorks at no cost. See UW’s Open Access policy for more information.

ACM Open (Association for Computing Machinery)	Magazines, conference proceedings, and journals published by ACM	100% reduction. Qualifying authors pay no fees.	The corresponding author must be affiliated with UW. Articles will be deposited into the ACM Digital Library immediately.
Biochemical Society/Portland Press	All journals	100% reduction. Qualifying authors pay no fees.	The corresponding author must be affiliated with UW.
Cambridge University Press	Gold and hybrid journals: • Hybrid journals give authors the choice whether to publish their articles OA for a fee. Articles that are not OA are available only by subscription. • Gold journals make articles available openly to everyone free of charge.	100% reduction. Qualifying authors pay no fees. Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory Press	Genes and Development, Genome Research, RNA, Learning & Memory (Articles in CSH Protocols, CSH Perspectives in Biology, and CHS Perspectives in Medicine are commissioned and do not accept submissions.)	Fees to publish OA are reduced to $2,035.00. (Without this agreement, total fees to publish OA would be $5,200.00.)	The corresponding author must be affiliated with UW. IOP	Journals in lists A, B, C, and D are included. Alternatively, UW authors can select UW as institution and search for journals in the IOP journal finder.	100% reduction. Qualifying authors pay no fees.	The corresponding author must be affiliated with UW at the time of submission. IOP provides detailed instructions. and an FAQ for authors.
MDPI	All MDPI journals	10% discount on APCs	Articles are eligible for the discount if any author is affiliated with UW, regardless of whether the UW author is the corresponding author.
The Microbiology Society	All journals	100% reduction. Qualifying authors pay no fees.	The corresponding author must be affiliated with UW at the time their article is accepted for publication.
PLOS	All PLOS journals	100% reduction. Qualifying authors pay no fees.	The corresponding author must be affiliated with UW.
