Last week went back to my school Vidzemes Augstskola / Vidzeme University of Applied Sciences, but there is a catch. This time I was on the other side of the class—done guest lecture. Topics that I covered were: - intro to DevOps/cloud; - Major shifts in the IT industry, like genAi or global decoupling; - Tips and tricks on how to succeed in starting an IT career; Top performers in software engineering and IT have become super productive, need for entry-level engineers is at an all-time low. But if we don't have new entrants to the industry, then we won't have the next generation of engineers. So I think it's important, for industry professionals to share their experience and tips/tricks for youngsters to make their entry more successful. This is needed so that the craft and industry of software engineering move forward.

It's been almost a year since Krzysztof Kania and I had a discussion about using User Defined Functions (#UDF) with behavior PowerFx. Back then, we encountered several stumbling blocks with certain use cases. Imagine my excitement in January when Microsoft announced support for behavior functions in UDFs (link in the article 👇)! In January, I had the chance to present this for the first time at the #CTTT2025 - it felt amazing to finally see it working live! 🤩 Today, I'm ready to share with you a comprehensive example that I've been refining for some time. Understanding how users interact with your app is key to keeping it engaging and functional. Traditionally, using the Trace() function required manually writing the full Trace code for each control, leading to potential human errors, inconsistencies, and unnecessary code bloat 🤯 With the enhanced capabilities of UDF, we can now declare all types and formats of tracing that are allowed or required for an app. This standardization allows developers to reuse established Trace functions efficiently, cutting down on redundant code and minimizing errors. In my latest article, I explain how to declare a behavior Trace() function in a UDF and process values from a variety of controls.
