Healthtech 🩺 Why cybersecurity is a challenge! Digital health is booming and every solution should be designed with a cybersecurity by design approach. Privacy must be built in from day one, not added later. Taking the wearables and smart devices example and they pose a risk: Smartwatches, patches, and implanted sensors collect tons of sensitive data. Federated learning offers a path forward: AI trains on patient data without the data leaving the hospital or device, keeping privacy intact while enabling collaborative intelligence. What does LIST do to support? Projects like R-MMS, our collaboration with MyelinZ®, combine AI, encryption, anonymization, and federated learning. Patient data stays private, AI learns safely, and hospitals can focus on care — not breaches. 🌍 When AI and connectivity bridge the digital divide across and outside Europe Coordinated by the Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST) and funded by Horizon Europe, the COMMECT project has successfully bridged the digital divide and unlock new opportunities for rural communities. Over the past three years, this initiative has: ⏹️ Brought connectivity to some of the most remote areas across and beyond Europe. ⏹️ Demonstrated innovative digital solutions through 5 Livings Labs: from precision spraying in Luxembourg’s vineyards to connected forestry in Norway. ⏹️ Developed an AI-powered agronomic assistant, helping identify the most suitable connectivity options for rural contexts. 🔗 Learn more about COMMECT: https://lnkd.in/ekiDH3AN #Connectivity #DigitalTransition #AI

🌳 Advancing forest resilience through science Prime Minister Luc Frieden and Serge Wilmes (Ministère de l'Environnement, du Climat et de la Biodiversité) visited the Bambësch research site, home to the FORLUX project 👉 https://lnkd.in/eZsEKbpk As climate change intensifies droughts, forest diseases and extreme weather, LIST researchers are working to better understand how Luxembourg’s forests can adapt and remain resilient. At the heart of FORLUX lies an integrated monitoring and modelling approach. Using sap flow sensors, meteorological stations, hydrological and air quality analyses, LIST scientists are developing a digital twin of the forest – a tool capable of simulating how ecosystems evolve under various climate scenarios. 💡 The project is funded by the Fonds climat et énergie of Ministère de l'Environnement, du Climat et de la Biodiversité, and carried out in collaboration with the Administration de la nature et des forêts and Ville de Luxembourg Picture credits: ME and MECB Bruno Alves | Michel LEYTEM | Olivier Guillon | Laurent Pfister | Richard Keim | Stan Schymanski | Christophe Hissler #FORLUX #LIST #Luxembourg #ClimateResilience #Forests

💡 What if high-school students could turn discarded materials into viable business ideas? That’s the question driving GUIDANCE, a three-year project funded by the Luxembourg National Research Fund (FNR) and led by Tim Huber, Senior R&T Associate at LIST. 🌱 Through hands-on workshops and the #TrashForm competition, students from participating high-schools across Luxembourg will learn to turn waste into creative, circular product ideas — blending science, design, and entrepreneurship. From researching material properties to prototyping and promoting their ideas, students will get to experience every step of the innovation journey. The most promising teams will compete in a national final at LIST. 👉 Originally inspired by an initiative Dr Huber launched in New Zealand, GUIDANCE aims to help Luxembourg’s youth imagine a more sustainable future. 🔗 Learn more about the initiative here: https://lnkd.in/eNxP6Frf #CircularDesign #Sustainability #Innovation #Luxembourg #Education

💧Launch of Luxembourg’s Hydrological Bulletin: A monthly insight into the country’s rainfall and river dynamics. From marked low flows in August to record-breaking rain in September, 2025 has already shown how rapidly water conditions can change across Luxembourg. 💡To help policymakers, water managers, researchers and citizens better understand and anticipate these hydrological dynamics under climate change, Laurent Pfister and his team at LIST, together with the Administration de la gestion de l'eau, have launched a monthly Hydrological Bulletin. 🔗 Learn more about this initiative and key 2025 trends so far: https://lnkd.in/ei8MMVBw #Hydrology #WaterResources #ClimateChange

How can Luxembourg’s communes turn digital innovation into tangible local impact? With the launch of the Smart City call by the Ministère de l'Économie - Luxembourg and the Ministère de l'Environnement, du Climat et de la Biodiversité, LIST’s Smart City Hub helps municipalities co-design and test solutions in mobility, energy, and resources. During a dedicated event organized in collaboration with Syndicat des Villes et Communes Luxembourgeoises - SYVICOL and hosted by Ville d'Esch-sur-Alzette, representatives from municipalities, intercommunal syndicates, public institutions, and private companies, highlighting strong multi-stakeholder interest were able to get: ▶️ Insights from Esch-sur-Alzette’s digital transformation journey, shared by Jeannot Behm and Jean-Paul Espen. ▶️ A presentation of the Smart City call for projects by Jerome Petry ▶️ An overview of the SmartCityHub’s mission and support offer by Marouane LAHMIDI. Also, the participants contributed to hands-on workshops, co-creating concrete use cases across different topics: Smart Mobility, Smart Energy, and Smart Resources — including ideas such as secure e-bike parking and charging, unified smart parking, energy optimisation of buildings, drinkable water network monitoring, and a construction resource reuse register. The SmartCityHub is a testing and experimentation environment designed to help Luxembourg’s cities and communes develop and adopt digital solutions safely, effectively, and collaboratively. Co-financed by the European Commission and Luxembourg’s Ministry of the Economy under the CitCom.ai TEF – Testing AI and Robotics in Smart Communities, it is the only TEF site in Luxembourg and will support municipalities through 2027 and beyond. A dedicated team of specialists in data science, AI, cybersecurity, and digital twins works hand-in-hand with municipalities to co-design pilot projects and tailor services to local needs. 🔗 Learn more: https://lnkd.in/exFp4gZq Bruno Cavaleiro | Jurgen Joossens | German Castignani | Luc Vandenabeele | Laurence Johannsen #SmartCity #DigitalTransformation #AI #Luxembourg #smartmobility #smartresources -
