💡 Baltic States Unite to Boost Microchip Innovation and Research A new memorandum of cooperation between Latvia, Lithuania, and Estonia marks a major step toward strengthening the Baltic region’s role in Europe’s microchip ecosystem. TildeOpen, our new open-source large language model built for all European languages, is attracting growing international interest. We were pleased to present it to OECD - OCDE Secretary-General Mathias Cormann during his visit to Latvia and meeting with Riga Technical University (RTU) International Technical University and Tilde. This was a great opportunity to show how Europe can strengthen its leadership in trustworthy and inclusive AI. TildeOpen proves that Europe can build its own powerful, secure, and multilingual AI foundation made in Europe, for Europe. It supports 34 languages, follows EU values and data-protection standards, and even includes safeguards against disinformation. For me, the meeting was also a reminder that AI is not just about technology. It's equally about trust, collaboration, and a shared vision for the future we want to create. 🚀 €1.8 Million to Advance Innovation at RTU Nine research teams from Riga Technical University (RTU) have secured €1.8 million through the national research programme “BioPhoT – Biomedical and Photonics Research Platform for the Development of Innovative Products.” Over the next year, researchers will transform cutting-edge scientific results into market-ready solutions in biomedicine, photonics, sustainable chemistry, and smart engineering — strengthening Latvia’s innovation ecosystem and competitiveness. 🚀 Latvian Youth Guards Build Drones for Ukrainian Armed Forces with RTU Support Under the guidance of Riga Technical University (RTU) and the non-profit «Drone Aid Collective», Latvian Youth Guards have successfully built 30 unmanned aerial vehicles during the Drone Summit 2025 in Riga. After testing, the drones were delivered to Ukraine, supporting training, reconnaissance, communications, and operational missions for the 37th Marine Brigade. Around 60 Youth Guards participated in hands-on workshops, receiving mentorship from RTU academics and Drone Aid instructors, with components provided by Pilotix.
