This week there was a post advocating against high rises in Gozo and also touched on the current #constructionfrenzy. The writer in this case sarcastically mentioned Valletta though the intended points hit home hard I hope. I agreed with all of them. I personally am strongly in favour of constructing #highrisebuildings but ONLY in #designatedareas and according to a master plan. I believe that if designed well, they will free up land mass which should be used for green🌳🌳 and public spaces and will allow us to rid ourselves of some atrocious looking buildings. I also strongly believe in #landreclamation but ONLY if it used used to stop this abhorrent construction in ODZ areas and hopefully could even be used to swap for #existingbuildings (which were originally ODZ areas) that stick out like a sore thumb. Besides the advantages it would bring to our #qualityoflife it would also be more challenging for architects and civil/structural engineers, as more creativity will be needed as well as more expertise. I advocate this policy for most #cities and #smallcountries. Works are proceeding on our 5 star hotel project at a very good pace. This project has so far involved the use of #piles and a #raft to support the frame structure. A two way reinforced concrete #flatslab system shall be used throughout.
