African climate-tech startup: Making sustainability attainable for businesses and recycling accessible to households
About us
GIVO is a social enterprise leveraging technology to revolutionise waste management and create a sustainable future in Africa. We collect and process recyclable materials from homes and businesses. GIVO Centers are solar-powered, zero-carbon hubs where recyclables are separated and shredded for sale to manufacturers, promoting circularity. Our centres are strategically located in the most vulnerable communities, to create job opportunities for locals and drive cleaner environments for the most vulnerable populations. So far, GIVO has created over 30 jobs and diverted over 1227 MT of recyclables from landfills and waterbodies in Nigeria (Lagos and Abuja), and Liberia (Monrovia).

We were honoured to have our CEO, Victor, join a distinguished panel at the recently concluded Digital Innovation in Circular Economy Africa (DICE Africa) Project launch: an initiative implemented by Nigeria Climate Innovation Center with support from International Development Research Centre (IDRC). The DICE Africa Project is building a sustainable Africa, one circular innovation at a time by fostering collaboration, digital transformation, and inclusive finance across the continent’s circular economy ecosystem. During the panel session themed “Scaling Circular Economy SME Clusters in Africa through Digital Transformation and Inclusive Finance,” Victor shared GIVO’s experience in leveraging data, technology, and local partnerships to create inclusive recycling systems that empower communities, promote responsible production, and reduce waste in the environment. As an organisation deeply rooted in circular innovation, we are excited about the opportunities DICE Africa presents to connect people, strengthen green businesses, and co-create solutions that accelerate Africa’s transition to a sustainable future. At GIVO, we remain committed to harnessing technology and collaboration to turn waste into value and drive a truly circular economy across Nigeria and beyond. ♻️ #CircularEconomy #Innovation #Sustainability #DigitalTransformation #InclusiveFinance #GIVO #Africa #PartnershipsForImpact #DICEAfrica #CircularEconomyAfrica.

Life really has a way of coming full circle! Never imagined I’d return to my secondary school, Abesan Senior High, not as a student, but as a volunteer facilitator for something impactful! I’m currently volunteering with GIVO Africa, in partnership with Development Bank of Nigeria , for the Green Project, a sustainability drive happening across different states/schools in Nigeria. And guess what? One of the schools I'm facilitating at is Abesan Senior High School, my alma mater! Our first facilitation was all about the Circular Economy, showing how small everyday actions can help our environment. From reusing and repurposing waste to turning “trash” into treasure, creativity was at its peak! I came with my usual energy, but the students? They totally outshined me! Their excitement and creativity were next level , they made pencil cases, flower vases, frame boards, and even fans from waste materials! Walking through the school again, seeing new buildings and fresh faces, filled me with so much pride and gratitude. Such a beautiful feeling to give back and contribute to a cleaner, greener Nigeria. #GreenProject #Givo #DBN #Sustainability #CircularEconomy #AbesanSeniorHigh #VolunteerLife #FullCircleMoment

On this International Day of Climate Action, we're honoured to be featured by sustainable_stories_africa for the work we're doing to transform waste into wealth across African communities. Climate action means different things in different places. For us, it means solar-powered recycling centres in neighbourhoods across the continent. It means creating jobs for local youth and women. It means making it possible for families to earn income while keeping recyclable materials out of our land and waterways. When Ibrahim, one of our collectors, says "nothing is waste anymore, everything is money," he's describing what happens when climate solutions meet community needs. Real change happens when environmental action puts money in people's pockets and pride in their Community. With only 12% of Nigeria's 4.7 million tons of plastic waste currently recycled, there's massive work ahead. But we're building the infrastructure, one solar-powered hub, one community, one collector at a time. Thank you to Sustainable Stories Africa for amplifying our mission. As part of the Green Clubs program in partnership with the Development Bank of Nigeria Plc, students across the five selected schools in Lagos, Abuja, and Zaria are also learning to turn waste into something wonderful 💚 These upcycled crafts are just one way they’re exploring creativity, teamwork, and the value of sustainability in everyday life. Each piece tells its own story of imagination, learning, and the power of seeing potential where others might see waste 🌍 #GreenClubs #SustainabilityEducation #Recycling #Upcycling #PartnershipForImpact #GIVO #DBN

Recycling doesn't really make a difference. That's the biggest myth we hear. But, tell that to the depositors earning income from recyclables. Or the communities with clearer drains. Or the manufacturers are getting quality materials at lower costs. Every recycled bottle carries a story of change; for people, for communities, for the planet. 💚 #MythVsReality #CircularEconomy #WasteToWorth #GIVOAfrica #ImpactStories

We’re excited to share that, in partnership with the Development Bank of Nigeria Plc, we have kicked off the Green Clubs program 🥳 This program brings hands-on environmental education to five schools across Lagos, Abuja, and Zaria, and we’ve just wrapped up the first sessions. Through Green Clubs, over 100 students across the country are simultaneously learning about sustainability, recycling, and how small, everyday actions can make a big difference. This first phase features our incredible facilitators leading sessions in their respective schools and inspiring the next generation of environmentalists to think green and act responsibly. We are grateful to Lolade Awogbade and the DBN team for trusting us to deliver the Green Clubs program, and for their commitment to empowering young Nigerians to build a more sustainable future. Together, we’re building a foundation for a more sustainable future, one classroom at a time 🌍 #GreenClubs #SustainabilityEducation #Recycling #PartnershipForImpact #GIVO #DBN
