My biggest mistake as a new Virtual Assistant wasn’t lack of skill, it was this mindset trap ⬇️ When I started out as a Virtual Assistant 4 years ago, I had one belief: “If I say yes to everything, I’ll keep every client happy.” So I said yes… 🤣🤣🤣 👉 Yes to urgent emails at midnight. 👉 Yes to last-minute tasks that weren’t even in my scope. 👉 Yes to juggling 20 different things at once even when I was already drowning. On the outside, I looked “busy.” But inside? I was burning out. Then one day, my client told me something that stopped me cold: “Juliet, I don’t need you to do everything. I need you to do the right things.” That stung. But it was the wake-up call I needed. I realized my mistake: ✅ I was confusing activity with impact. ✅ I thought speed mattered more than strategy. ✅ I believed being agreeable made me valuable, when in fact, it made me replaceable. So I changed my approach. Here’s what I did differently: 1️⃣ Prioritized high-impact tasks over “busy” work. 2️⃣ Set clear boundaries and communicated them with confidence. 3️⃣ Stopped measuring my value by hours worked, focused on results delivered. 4️⃣ Learned to work smarter, not harder. The difference? Night and day. 💡 My stress levels dropped. 💡 My clients trusted me more. 💡 And my work started driving outcomes that truly mattered. For those above 30, your chances of getting fully funded opportunities become significantly slimmer. Why? Because most programs are designed for people between 18–30. So, if you are still in your 20s, be intentional about maximizing that period, it is your golden window to apply, explore, and gain access to exchange programs, summer programs, fellowships, conferences, workshops, leadership programs, cultural immersion programs, online courses with scholarships, and volunteering programs. Honestly, applying at a very early age has really helped me. By the time you get to your 30s, the game changes. What opens doors for you then is less about applications and more about your influence, your reputation as a thought leader, a facilitator, or a recognized voice in your field. At that stage, opportunities come more in the form of invitations to speak, mentor, or join expert networks, rather than participating as a beneficiary. That said, for those of you who are above 30, opportunities still exist, you just have to be more intentional and strategic in finding and seizing those meant for your category. Now, there are even conversations around extending these age limits for people in developing countries, given the unique barriers many face but the reality is, most programs still stick to their age brackets. So the truth is what it is, maximizing these opportunities as a teenager or in your early 20s gives you the clearest path. In short: start early, maximize your 20s, and be intentional in your 30s. That season won’t come twice. P.S. I am not talking about Graduate school here.

I didn’t start creating content effortlessly Here are my 3 secrets to staying consistent Anytime I post on LinkedIn, I usually share it in WhatsApp groups I’m part of, and sometimes on my WhatsApp status. Surprisingly, this often leads to people reaching out to ask me: “How are you able to create content every single day?” “What do you even post about?” “How do you come up with content so easily?” To them, it seems like magic. But here’s the truth… 📌 What they see: Daily content showing up without fail. 📌 What they don’t see: The systems and habits I’ve built behind the scenes. Because honestly, creating content and staying consistent can be tough. But these 3 secrets have made it much easier for me: 1. Content is everywhere Whether it’s a video, a conversation, a quote, or an article — we’re constantly surrounded by content. 📌 The more I read and observe, the more ideas I gather. It gives me fresh inspiration to pull from and apply to my daily posts. 2. Write down what you learn We don’t know everything — and that’s okay. Growth is my personal hallmark. 📌 Anytime I come across something new, I jot it down in a notebook I’ve dedicated just for LinkedIn.
