The ELIA Biennial 2026 is ɢᴏɪɴɢ ᴏꜰꜰ ᴄᴇɴᴛʀᴇ 🌀 Hosted by ArtEZ University of the Arts in Zwolle, NL, from 18 – 21 November 2026. In volatile times, no centre is fixed or permanent. ELIA Biennial 2026 invites us to explore the act and art of decentring while embracing the tension this brings. Across four days of workshops, experiments, panels, performances, presentations and artistic interventions, we will reposition the art school not by restoring a lost centre, but by reforming as a body of knowing: a living, breathing whole that resists being bricked in by definitions, dogmas, or hierarchies. The Call for Contributions is now open 📣 Calling all artistic practitioners, performers, philosophers, researchers, educators, students, pedagogues, admin staff, technicians, leaders and makers! We invite you to explore what forms of knowledge, practice, art and paradoxes emerge when we decentre dominant narratives, disrupt habitual hierarchies, and shift our attention toward the marginal, the local, the peripheral. Read the full call and visit https://lnkd.in/eJhnNpkP Deadline: 16 January 2026 [elia, biennial, Zwolle, conference, call, open, art education, ArtEZ]

#ELIAinthefield 🌄 Our first #ELIAintheField takes us to Napoli, where Jørn Mortensen, ELIA Vice-President, delivered the opening keynote at the P+ARTS UNFRAMING KNOWLEDGE: Artistic Research Beyond Theory and Practice conference on the value and relevance of #ArtisticResearch. 💬 In his speech, “Why Artistic Research Meets the Criteria,” Jørn explained how different fields of knowledge become recognised domains, he charted how artistic research has developed as a concept, methodology, and set of standards, gaining legitimacy through institutions, research experts, and cultural acceptance. Hosted by ELIA members NABA Nuova Accademia di Belle Arti and ABANA - Accademia di Belle Arti di Napoli, this milestone event marked a significant moment for higher arts education in Italy. Call for Contributions – EDI Community Meeting 2026 Higher arts education prides itself on creativity and transformation, yet behind our institutions’ walls, deeply rooted hierarchies are at play. ELIA’s EDI Community Hub is calling on ELIA members to co-create the 2026 programme under the theme: 𝗔𝗰𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗮𝘀 𝗖𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗣𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗲 Who holds power in arts education, who is excluded, and how do we respond both as individuals and as a collective body? We invite proposals from students, educators, administrators, artists, and policymakers that explore accountability and power in arts education through critical, creative, or performative approaches. Formats include workshops, roundtables, performances, research, and collaborative initiatives. Submit your proposal by 27 October 2025: https://lnkd.in/eHFZKZJZ Hosted by Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya - ESMUC, in Barcelona, Spain, from 11–13 March 2026, save the date! Bring your favourite night light 🔦 Join us this Thursday, 23 October, for the third session in ELIA’s Artistic Research Working Group online series: Constellating Through Artistic Research in Turbulent Times. Dedicated to the concept of constellation — a space for artistic and educational modes of exchange, mutual care, and action. Building on the first two sessions, we will work together to develop a collective protocol on artistic research for our turbulent times. This hybrid session will bring together the online group and a live study group at Glenn Loughran, PhD’s 'Night Study' exhibition at Uillinn in West Cork Arts Centre. 📝 Before we meet, we ask you to review some of the Protocol examples in the Padlet and draft a single-page protocol addressing an issue that feels most relevant in your current context.
