AI Policies: Leading by example in our community 💡 As #AI reshapes the way we work, study, and protect our systems, one thing becomes clear — mindfulness matters more than ever. At HEAnet, the ICT Security Services team is helping universities and institutions across Ireland pause, reflect, and approach AI with awareness, turning uncertainty into clarity. Their work shows that building trust in AI isn’t just about compliance or technology, but about people: how we think, decide, and stay accountable. In this latest #GEANTCybersecurity campaign article, Daniella Vendramini (HEAnet) shares practical insights on how AI policies can protect people, data, and integrity, and why leadership, awareness, and open dialogue all matter just as much as technology. 🔗 Read the full article for more insights: https://lnkd.in/ewDTC6Mb And if you’re joining the HEAnet Conference 2025 next week (5–7 November), don’t miss the conversations around AI, #cybersecurity, and the future of trust in R&E. How can the European Open Science Cloud (#EOSC) evolve into a truly sustainable and federated ecosystem post-2027? This is the question we explored together with our partners in the European e-Infrastructures Assembly – EGI Foundation, EUDAT, OpenAIRE AMKE, and PRACE (Partnership for Advanced Computing in Europe) – in a new joint position paper. Drawing on decades of collective experience in delivering cross-border, federated services, the paper highlights three priorities: 🔹 Ensuring long-term sustainability of essential cross-border services by moving beyond the “free at the point of delivery” model 🔹 Giving service integrators and Nodes a decisive voice in the strategic governance and technical direction of the EOSC Federation 🔹 Establishing fair Service Level Agreements that recognise and compensate for the technical contributions and responsibilities of e-Infrastructures These reflections come at an important moment for the community, as discussions on the future of EOSC will continue at the #EOSCSymposium2025 in Brussels next week. We invite our community and all symposium attendees to read the paper ahead of the discussions next week. 🔗 Download the position paper on Zenodo: https://lnkd.in/e_rxr3G4

💸 “Earn €1,000 a week. 100% safe. Limited time only!” It looks tempting. Everyone else seems to be doing it. And the inner voice says: what if it’s real? That’s exactly how cyber criminals exploit social engineering tactics like curiosity, greed, and even FOMO to get us to fall for the bait. When something sounds or feels too good to be true, pause and breathe. Try this box breathing exercise (4–4–4–4) to reset before clicking. 🎥 Watch the third animation in our 2025 #GEANTCybersecurity campaign, and let’s keep training our #digitalmindfulness together. 🔗 Explore the 2025 campaign and download the “Understanding the bait” doc for more insights: https://lnkd.in/ettihCiC Be mindful. This week, we joined the #RTISummit2025 in Copenhagen to highlight the role of GÉANT and our #NREN community in supporting research and innovation across Europe. Hosted under the Danish Presidency of the Council of the EU 2025, this two-day event brought together leaders from across Europe to shape the future of Research & Technology Infrastructures and discuss the new European RTI strategy. The summit provided valuable input for its implementation and demonstrated how these infrastructures drive innovation, science, and industry forward. Here are a few highlights from the sessions: 🔹 Europe’s R&I ecosystem depends on Research (RIs) & Technology Infrastructures (TIs) of all shapes and sizes, from small-scale and distributed to large-scale, each essential for scientific excellence. 🔹 Pan-European collaboration models built on a firm trust basis are key to meeting future challenges. 🔹 The infrastructure provided by GÉANT and our NREN community is indispensable for research and education. We were part of a joint booth together with the European e-Infrastructures Assembly: EGI Foundation, EUDAT, OpenAIRE AMKE, and PRACE (Partnership for Advanced Computing in Europe), showcasing how we work together to support European research, education, and innovation. 👏 A big thank you to the Danish Technological Institute for hosting an excellent event, and to all participants who joined us at the booth for insightful conversations and shared perspectives. Bridging continents through connectivity 🌍 From the bustling offices of Nairobi to the remote wildlife conservancy of Kapiti, a collaboration between Jisc and KENET (KENYA EDUCATION NETWORK) has achieved what once seemed impossible: bringing #eduroam to one of the most remote research sites in Kenya. Through the GÉANT Twinning Programme, the teams combined UK and Kenyan expertise to test whether satellite internet could extend eduroam access to researchers far from any broadband infrastructure. The results? Surprisingly fast, reliable, and transformative. This project is a proof of how global NREN collaboration can remove barriers to research. By sharing knowledge and resources, Jisc and KENET created a scalable model for extending secure connectivity to even the most remote regions worldwide, and presented it to the global R&E networking community at #TNC25. 👏 Congratulations to both teams for showing how our global R&E community can innovate for inclusion, discovery, and connection—no matter the distance. 📢 Want to be part of the next Twinning period and shape your own long-lasting partnerships? The call for submissions for the 2026 cycle is now open, be sure to submit your proposal by latest 31 October 2025. 🔗 Discover the full story, detailed results, and reflections from Peter Kent (Jisc): https://lnkd.in/eeCUdN9s

“Take a breath, take a step back. Critical thinking is now the key when using technology,” says Dr. Maria Bada, behavioural scientist, Senior Lecturer at Queen Mary University of London and presenter at our upcoming #GEANTCybersecurity campaign webinar. #AI is changing the way we work, study and collaborate. It’s also changing the way we’re deceived. And the weakness it exploits most effectively isn’t technical at all—it’s trust. Scammers know this well. It’s no longer just about spotting a dodgy link, it’s about understanding ourselves: how we think, react, and decide. Join GÉANT's Security Awareness team and Dr Maria Bada for a deep dive into the human side of AI-driven threats—and how to stay one step ahead with psychological resilience and critical thinking. 💡 Read the interview with Dr Maria Bada for more insights: https://lnkd.in/e6PSjHXU 🔗 Save your spot for the 23 October webinar: https://lnkd.in/e4N9rJC4 Be mindful.
