🎤 European Resilience Builds on Space & DefenceTech 🚀 We were honoured to welcome General Rajmund Andrzejczak, Chief of the General Staff of the Polish Armed Forces (2018–2023), who delivered a fascinating keynote at our final session of the OTB Ventures Summit. He spoke about the reality and complexity of the modern battlefield, setting the stage for a thought-provoking discussion. Rafal Modrzewski (ICEYE) and Sebastian Klaus (Atmos Space Cargo) joined him for a planel moderated by Joe Schorge (Isomer Capital) which explored how Europe can strengthen resilience through Space and DefenceTech. I'm excited to announce that Astex, Bristol Myers Squibb, and Takeda are officially joining AbbVie and Johnson & Johnson to fine-tune OpenFold3 on their proprietary structural data. That means five large pharma companies are now collaborating, each contributing many thousands of protein–small molecule structures (while keeping ownership and data IP fully protected via Apheris). A dataset of this scale and diversity just doesn’t exist to date, especially not within a single company. AbbVie and J&J were the first to get this moving, and their early commitment made it possible for others to join. Thanks to Gary Tresadern, John Karanicolas, Chris Murray, Paul Mortenson, Prashanth Vishwanath, Hans Bitter, Payal Sheth, and their teams as well as Mohammed AlQuraishi for the great collaboration, learnings, and trust to make this happen. For me, this shows what’s possible when scientific excellence, trust, and persistence line up. Companies finding a way to collaborate on science without giving up control of their data. And it sets the stage for much more to come in structural biology and drug discovery. Excited to see the impact AISB will have on the industry. 🎤 New Game, New Cards – What Will Tomorrow’s Investing Look Like? We were delighted to host Philippe Tibi, Professor of Economics and Founder of the Tibi Initiative at the OTB Ventures Summit. He delivered a passionate keynote about his experience mobilising private capital into venture and its impact on the French tech ecosystem. He emphasized that this is only the beginning. In his words, Europe’s €35,000bn in household savings is a fortress that should open up to the future, not protect the past. 🇪🇺 Innovate to Make Europe Even Greater 🇪🇺 At last week's OTB Summit, we had the honor of hosting Marjut Falkstedt, CEO of the European Investment Fund (EIF), who delivered an engaging keynote on the role of innovation financing in Europe’s growth. She stressed the importance of backing startups from the earliest stage through to IPO — and closing the scale-up funding gap so Europe’s brightest ventures can thrive at home rather than migrate abroad. Her remarks set the stage for our first panel of the day, where she was joined by Chris Wade, Christian Morales and Prof. Alojzy Nowak, and moderated by Jarosław Dąbrowski.
