The 89th IFLA World Library and Information Congress was held in Astana, once again highlighting the crucial role of libraries in shaping the future. The discussions covered a wide range of topics, from open science to artificial intelligence, copyright, sustainability, and digital cultural heritage. Libraries were presented not only as guardians of knowledge but also as active agents of social change. As a member of IFLA’s National Libraries Section, Anna Chulyan, Director of the National Library of Armenia, participated in the Congress, presenting the experiences and expertise of the Armenian library community on the international stage.
On August 17, a working session of the commission took place, during which the results of the 2025–2029 elections were ratified and new members were introduced. The session summarized the commission’s one-year activities and outlined the roadmap and action plan for its future work. Special mention was made of the effective participation of the Director of the National Library of Armenia in the work of the Bibliographic Control Committee, serving as an expert involved in the development of the Bibliographic Control Manifesto. The commission organized a session on “Collecting in a Digital World: Inclusivity and Sustainability,” presenting approaches to the development of national library collections in the digital era.
The Director of the National Library of Armenia held a series of meetings and discussions with representatives of international library and information organizations to explore joint projects and potential collaborations. One of the key initiatives of the Congress was the launch of the Digital Cultural Heritage Network, which brings together libraries to preserve and make cultural digital heritage accessible. #IFLA_WLIC_2025 reaffirmed that libraries are not only sources of information but also centers for building a responsible future of knowledge and culture.
