What are the similarities between a pistachio bun recipe and an analysis methodology for installing suction anchors?🥨 ⚓ Apparently, a lot more than you might think! That was just one of many things I learned during a technology deep dive with good colleagues in Stavanger recently. Just like a good recipe, an analysis methodology lays out the precise steps and assumptions needed to create a reliable model. For instance, when installing suction anchors - a structure you anchor to the seabed by suctioning out the water column inside. We are using them everywhere (floating wind, oil and gas installations and more) with best-practice guidelines, similar to following a pre-mixed bun recipe. Although it gives a decent estimate, it's not always the most accurate. To improve accuracy, we can create a detailed simulation model – much like baking from scratch using a recipe – which requires more effort but yields better results. At Equinor, we've been working on developing a standard for suction anchor installation simulations, collaborating with research institutions like SINTEF Ocean. This effort is like crafting our own recipe, resulting in models that reflect real-world conditions more closely. Through extensive model tests in various wave conditions, we've validated our simulation models, ensuring their reliability. These refined methodologies lead to "operability tables" for offshore decision-makers to determine the feasibility of installations based on weather forecasts. By improving operability, we save vessel days and substantial costs. Just like reducing waiting time for a perfect batch of pistachio buns, enhancing our installation processes can save millions annually. Having such technology deep dives is one of the best parts of my job. Equinor has ambitious business targets for the next years. But with so many talented people within different professional areas, working on cracking technology challenges, I know we are in a good place in terms of achieving our goals. 🤩

Aker Solutions, in a consortium with Siemens Energy, has reached an important milestone by receiving the full notice to proceed from RWE for the Norfolk Vanguard West and East offshore wind farms. The project is being executed through a consortium consisting of Aker Solutions and Siemens Energy. Aker Solutions’ scope includes engineering, procurement, construction and installation (EPCI) of the high voltage direct current (HVDC) offshore platform, while Siemens Energy is responsible for the onshore station as well as the high voltage equipment in the offshore substations. The joint venture between Aker Solutions and Drydocks World will deliver the two HVDC platforms. Fabrication of the platform topsides will be executed by Drydocks World in Dubai, UAE, while the fabrication of the substructure will be executed by Aker Solutions’ yard in Verdal, Norway fabrication of the Norfolk Vanguard East platform is scheduled to begin in the second quarter of 2025. Equinor and partners have struck oil and gas in the Fram area, nine kilometres north of the Troll field in the North Sea. One exploration well has encountered petroleum in two reservoirs. One of the discoveries consists of both oil and gas, while the other one is just gas.
