Another capsule has returned from space to regional South Australia – growing Australia’s reputation as a reliable spaceflight hub. Varda Space Industries successfully returned its Winnebago-3 (W-3) capsule to Southern Launch’s Koonibba Test Range on Wednesday. It comes just a couple of months after the historic W-2 return to Koonibba – which was the first commercial return to a commercial spaceport anywhere in the world. When will Government departments share data & research??? EVERY Government globally uses simulation training, yet Transport departments in NSW and Victoria, have deemed simulators ineligible for grant funding. "Simulator technology has not yet advanced to the point where it can reliably be used for driver training" - maybe ask any F1 team about that? Apparently citing "limitations in peripheral vision, speed and depth perception and a general lack of realism. Translating the simulator experience to practical driving is challenging, particularly in developing the higher order hazard perception skills that drivers need to respond safely to different road conditions and situations". Maybe do some research into why other Government departments and agencies use simulation for defence, aviation, tram/train drivers, surgeons/medical, emergency services, construction, etc. etc. Simulation is the SAFEST way to train road users for hazardous situations - eg: sharing the road with heavy vehicles, various weather/road/traffic conditions. Transport departments need to update their research/data, look at what's working and what's not, and be consistent. ALL States & Territories currently use simulation with the online hazard perception tests - that's a simulation! The road safety industry is decades behind in the adoption of technology that can save lives. The Awards recognise individuals and organisations that have made a significant contribution to the Australian uncrewed systems industry. AAUS congratulates for following winners for their outstanding achievements.   Innovation and Operations Award - CONGRATULATIONS Toll Uncrewed Systems - Toll Government & Defence   2025 Winner: Toll Uncrewed Systems Toll Uncrewed Systems are enhancing aeromedical response by developing and operationalising a safe, efficient, and standardised framework for integrating uncrewed systems into emergency aeromedical and search & rescue (SAR) airspace. The work is enhancing public safety outcomes and driving industry-wide innovation and regulatory reform within the Australian drone ecosystem. Toll Uncrewed Systems initiated a collaborative program with Toll NSW Ambulance Helicopters – Aeromedical Rescue Services aimed at the safe integration of uncrewed aerial systems (UAS) into traditionally crewed airspace used for lifesaving and patient outcome missions overcoming one of the most complex challenges in modern aviation - shared & coordinated operational environments between manned and unmanned aircraft.   This strategic initiative represented a national first in jointly developing practical airspace solutions that supports aeromedical, SAR, and patient outcome emergency missions, particularly in the Blue Mountains remote, hazardous, and communication-challenged environments, where uncrewed systems provide unique operational advantages.
