The Green Climate Fund (GCF) has approved $250 million for the ‘Glaciers to Farms’ flagship adaptation programme, which aims to strengthen climate resilience in glacier-dependent regions across Central Asia, the South Caucasus, and Pakistan. Led by the Asian Development Bank (ADB), the initiative will develop sustainable water and agricultural systems to support communities that rely on glacier and snow-fed rivers for irrigation, drinking water, and power generation. The programme covers nine countries, including Pakistan, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan. It will focus on four major glacier-fed river basins — the Naryn and Pyanj in Central Asia, the Kura in the South Caucasus, and the Swat River Basin in Pakistan — covering around 27 million hectares. Officials say the project will enhance regional cooperation, climate-smart farming, and water management to help vulnerable mountain and downstream communities adapt to rapid glacier melt caused by global warming. #IbexMediaNetwork #GreenClimateFund #Pakistan
