The year 2025 brought important anniversaries to the European Border and Coast Guard community - 40 years of the Schengen Agreement and 20 years of Frontex are truly important milestones. The Agency‘s vulnerability assessment function is still two years short of its first-round anniversary. With the important inputs from our border guard colleagues in the 29 Member States and Schengen associated countries, this year we shared the eighth edition of individual country assessments with our stakeholders on Thursday, 26 June. The overall results are encouraging - the total number of identified vulnerabilities concerning the capacities and preparedness of border control in our Member States declined.   Together we will set out to implement remedies - all this with one common goal: to ensure today‘s external borders of the European Union remain secure tomorrow. For over a decade now, the European Union 🇪🇺 has been actively supporting a comprehensive approach to border protection, contributing to a resilient, humane and effective migration management across the Western Balkans. This long-term commitment aims to strengthen national systems, ensure fair treatment for people on the move, and align practices with EU and international standards. Through an EU-funded programme, implemented in close partnership with Frontex, European Union Agency for Asylum – EUAA, IOM - UN Migration and UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency we are building stronger, more resilient migration and asylum systems in the region. This collaboration supports: 🔹 National authorities in managing borders effectively 🔹 Protection for refugees and vulnerable groups 🔹 Capacity-building for institutions and professionals By strengthening these systems, we are not only improving governance today but also paving the way for the region’s closer integration with the EU, driving the #EUEnlargement process forward🚀 #StrongerTogether

Frontex will soon open new border guard training centre in Warsaw We are set to open a new training centre for border guards in Warsaw, the home of its headquarters. The modern educational facility featuring both classrooms and tactical training areas will be established on the campus of the University of Physical Education. The first students are expected to arrive on campus later this year. The establishment of this training facility was formalised🤝 with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between Frontex Executive Director Hans Leijtens and Poland’s Minister of Interior Tomasz Siemoniak. This represents yet another step in the close relationship between Frontex and Poland, which has hosted the agency now for over two decades. The message of the day 👉 comes in the words of Frontex Executive Director Hans Leijtens: “Training our border guards in the heart of Europe sends a clear message: protecting our borders is a shared European duty. This centre in Warsaw is where the future of European border management begins. 🎓 Today, at Warsaw Castle, we proudly welcomed the newest members of the European Border and Coast Guard Standing Corps. These officers, from more than 20 EU countries, completed rigorous training in Avila, Spain, and Almada, Portugal. They will now deploy across Europe and beyond: from Finland to Greece, from Spain to Serbia. Protecting borders, supporting national authorities, and upholding fundamental rights. ⭐ As our Executive Director Hans Leijtens said during the ceremony: “You are guardians of Europe’s borders, but also of its soul.” This graduation is more than a personal milestone. It marks progress for the European Union: ✅ Strengthening joint border management ✅ Upholding dignity and rule of law ✅ Building a transparent, trusted, and accountable Frontex. To our graduates: welcome to the Standing Corps. Your mission begins now.

Strengthening Borders, Empowering Communities We’re proud to deepen our collaboration with Estonian authorities in Pärnu, where Frontex was invited by The National Defence League to present our latest equipment on Victory Day. 👌Operational excellence on full display in the Bay of Gdańsk Today we successfully executed a live Multipurpose Maritime Exercise - MME BRACE2025 - coordinated by Frontex and the Polish Border Guard, with the active participation of our sister agencies European Fisheries Control Agency - EFCA, European Maritime Safety Agency, and Polish maritime, SAR, and fisheries authorities. The exercise tested real-time response, interoperability, and coast guard function integration – embodying the MMO model in action. A strong show of cooperation among EU agencies and Member States in a dynamic maritime setting🌊

Secure and well-prepared European Union 🇪🇺 The 12th Strategic Risk Analysis Network Meeting brought together experts from the Member States, European Commission, European Union Agency for Cybersecurity (ENISA), European Union Agency for Asylum – EUAA and eu-LISA to develop strategic foresight for border management and prepare the 2026 Strategic Risk Analysis report. The agenda included:   📊 Strategic Risk Analysis Report 2026 from the Frontex foresight team  🛡️ Internal security and preparedness strategies  🔐 Cybersecurity presentation delivered by ENISA   🤖 Conversations on the future of AI in our security framework    The second day of the meeting was organised by the Hellenic Police and Hellenic Coast Guard who hosted an awareness session on the current situation at the EU’s external borders managed by Greece, and a visit to the Port of Piraeus including a demonstration of the Entry-Exit System in Terminal B.
