🔥 Major wildfire response on Chios Island 🔥 Despite massive firefighting efforts, devastating fires have burned over 4500 hectares on Chios. Our hearts go out to the affected communities. More than 400 firefighters deployed, 14 helicopters, 4 airplanes, and the assistance of all available resources were able to evacuate a dozen villages and prevent human losses. As part of the operation, Frontex patrols, one of them composed of Norwegian police officers, secured access roads to protect both residents and emergency responders. All available resources were mobilised in this critical operation. One arrest has been made in connection with suspected arson. #ChiosFires #EmergencyResponse #Frontex #Greece

Frontex ponownie to opublikował(a)
Class of 2025 I looked out and saw 234 women and men standing in uniform. Officers, from guards up to colonels. Ready to serve. This was their graduation ceremony at the Warsaw Royal Castle last week. Behind them were their families, proud, emotional, quietly taking in the moment. It struck me deeply. It was a moment of recognition: for the officers, and for the people who stood by them every step of the way. These new officers of the European Border and Coast Guard Standing Corps came from across the continent. Different countries, different paths, but united by shared mission. Now they head to the European borders, from Estonia to Greece, from Spain to Albania. Their presence reflects more than operational support. It is a visible sign of European solidarity and responsibility. This group was trained in Almada (PT) and Avila (ES). But when everything goes according to plan they are the last ones that enjoyed the hospitality and support of Portugal and Spain. After the graduation, we marked another step forward for our long-term mission. I signed an agreement with Poland’s Ministry of Interior to establish the future training of Standing Corps officers right here in Warsaw, at the Academy of Physical Education. This is an investment in professionalism, partnership, and Europe’s future capacity to manage its borders. For now, congratulations! To the new officers, to their families, and to everyone at Frontex who made this moment possible, thank you. I have taken part in many ceremonies over my career, but this one felt very special. Because this is not only national service. It is European service. And it matters to all of us. You have my respect. You have my full support.

The year 2025 brought important anniversaries to the European Border and Coast Guard community - 40 years of the Schengen Agreement and 20 years of Frontex are truly important milestones. The Agency‘s vulnerability assessment function is still two years short of its first-round anniversary. With the important inputs from our border guard colleagues in the 29 Member States and Schengen associated countries, this year we shared the eighth edition of individual country assessments with our stakeholders on Thursday, 26 June. The overall results are encouraging - the total number of identified vulnerabilities concerning the capacities and preparedness of border control in our Member States declined. Together we will set out to implement remedies - all this with one common goal: to ensure today‘s external borders of the European Union remain secure tomorrow. Frontex will soon open new border guard training centre in Warsaw We are set to open a new training centre for border guards in Warsaw, the home of its headquarters. The modern educational facility featuring both classrooms and tactical training areas will be established on the campus of the University of Physical Education. The first students are expected to arrive on campus later this year. The establishment of this training facility was formalised🤝 with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between Frontex Executive Director Hans Leijtens and Poland’s Minister of Interior Tomasz Siemoniak. This represents yet another step in the close relationship between Frontex and Poland, which has hosted the agency now for over two decades. The message of the day 👉 comes in the words of Frontex Executive Director Hans Leijtens: “Training our border guards in the heart of Europe sends a clear message: protecting our borders is a shared European duty. This centre in Warsaw is where the future of European border management begins. High-quality training is how we ensure every officer, from across Europe, meets the same high standards and is prepared for the complex challenges at our borders.” More details here: https://europa.eu/!xbhv38
