Sera Young joins PLOS Water as co-Editor-in-Chief
Sera Young, with her favorite lake, Lake MichiganWe are delighted to welcome Professor Sera Young to PLOS Water as co-Editor-in-Chief! Sera is a professor of anthropology at Northwestern University, in Chicago, Illinois, where she also holds appointments as the co-Director of the Center for Water and a fellow at the Institute for Policy Research.
Sera is trained in Medical Anthropology (University of Amsterdam) and Public Health Nutrition (Cornell University), and has dedicated her career to understanding how women, especially in low-resource settings, cope to preserve their health and that of their families. She has spent the last dozen years working out how to quantify human experiences with problems with water, and unpacking their consequences for nutrition, health, and overall well-being, with the Water Insecurity Experiences Scales.
While the scope of PLOS Water remains broad, multidisciplinary, and inclusive, Sera is keen to encourage submissions that have real-world implications; that are attentive to strong visual communication of information; and approach water in broad multidisciplinary collaborations (e.g. Civil engineering and Policy, Climate science and Health, Chemistry and Sociology, Education and Economics). She also looks forward to encouraging submissions from outside of traditional academia, including from civil society, development banks, governments and NGOs.
Sera joins existing co-Editor-in-chief Professor Pierre Horwitz, our Executive Editor Guillaume Wright, and our global team of Section Editors and the wider Editorial Board as we continue to grow PLOS Water‘s community.
