All Songs Considered

Lars Gotrich is always a fun listen. This week he sent me straight to Spotify with his elegant, economical words about Black Eyes’ “Hostile Designs”: “An apocalyptic love cry in danceable dub.” Great choice, quirky voice, memorable commentary.

You guys really don’t do anything Relix or West Coast or jam band related and you have never mentioned phish in like 25 years. You get some good critically acclaimed stuff, but you push too much left wing and not really good Indie rock. It’s just getting boring your show and I’ve decided to stop listening. I do keep up with the tiny desk and if there’s an artist that’s on, I’ll grab attention in the but really just not interested in hearing your angles anymore. They’re not interesting or insightful.

I am just loving the new format of the Friday show where Stephen hosts and has a new guest each week from a different local NPR station from around the county.

Absolutely adore this feed. It along with Bandcamp have become *the* ways I discover music these days and the amount of contextual information provided with each artist and song is captivating. I love all the shows on this stream, especially the way they all exude a voracious and earnest love of all music that helps cleanse me of the “cooler than thou” hipsterism of my formative years. You all rock. Brief note to Stephen: I love what you’ve done with New Music Fridays, bringing on a new member station DJ every week! It’s great to hear new perspectives and regional favorites mixed into the other notable callouts. Buuuuut, that “favorite song” piece doesn’t really add much, as 99% of the time we’ve already heard your takes on those songs earlier in the show. Probably the only part I skip in all the NPR Music podcasts. 😰 Maybe take the extra time to add another back and forth in the lightning round?
