I'm thrilled to share that my second article from my dissertation is available and open-access. Here, my data shows that most MPs trust their staff to make some decisions on their behalf. Staff then act as "echoes", amplifying constituent concerns, and "barriers", blocking ideas and access to the MP. Staff also are key in communicating with constituents, frequently informing them about federal government policies. As well, I find that staffers in the constituency are much more likely to use their discretion in what constituent interactions they report back to the MP. Overall, I argue that staff are crucial actors in understanding what information MPs hear. Thanks to the issue's co-editors, Gijs Jan Brandsma & Anna-Lena Högenauer!
