This week, we had the pleasure of taking part in the 2025 CIRM (Comité International Radio-Maritime) Annual Conference, held this year in Lisbon. With an impressive 97-year history, CIRM brings together key players from across the maritime and technology sectors at the Annual Conference. The event featured a diverse and insightful programme, with contributions from CIRM Members and distinguished guests from the wider shipping industry. Throughout the conference, we attended excellent presentations showing the latest developments in regulation and technology related to several topics, including AIS and VDES, to which LusoSpace's satellite constellation contributes. We highlight that our CEO, Ivo Yves Vieira, was invited to be part of a panel, giving a presentation entitled: “From Space to Sea: The Future of Maritime Connectivity with AIS & VDES.” It was a fantastic opportunity to exchange ideas, connect with industry leaders, and contribute to the discussion on the future of maritime connectivity, safety, and security.   #LusoSpace #CIRM #CIRM2025 #MaritimeConnectivity #AIS #VDES

LusoSpace had the honour to contribute to the 4th European Symposium by NEREUS | Network of European Regions Using Space Technologies, held in Ponta Delgada, Azores, where we participated in the panel “Communications and Cybersecurity” to present “VDES for secure and resilient Maritime Communications”. The symposium provided a valuable opportunity to share ideas and experiences, as well as to interact with experts from across Europe on the future of space technologies in European regions, with a focus on Civil Protection, Blue Economy, and Defence & Security.   #LusoSpace #NEREUS #MaritimeCommunications #VDES

On World Maritime Day (25 September), LusoSpace was pleased to participate in REPMUS 2025, the world’s largest exercise on robotics and unmanned systems, organised by the Portuguese Navy in collaboration with national and international partners. On September 16th, at the Instituto Universitário Militar (IUM) in Lisbon, LusoSpace joined leading voices from the Defence industry and the  Military Academy for the 3rd Edition: Space Domain in Defence.   This event, organized by AED Cluster Portugal and the Estado-Maior-General das Forças Armadas, with the institutional support of the Portuguese Space Agency (Agência Espacial Portuguesa) and idD Portugal Defence, created a platform to discuss how to integrate space into national defence strategies.   By bringing together defence needs, ongoing and future programs, and the capabilities of the aerospace, space, and defence industries, the initiative highlighted the growing importance of space as a strategic domain for Portugal and beyond. #LusoSpace #SpaceDefense #AED

At LusoSpace, we were pleased to take part in Friday's discussion on the proposed EU Space Act, hosted at the Pavilhão do Conhecimento in Lisbon. The initiative, organized by the Portuguese Space Agency ( Agência Espacial Portuguesa ) with the support of Ciência Viva, gathered a wide range of voices from the national space and legal community. On Tuesday, September 9, LusoSpace had the opportunity to visit the VTS Tower at the Port of Lisbon, the center for maritime traffic coordination and safety. Our discussions explored how VDES (VHF Data Exchange System) and AIS (Automatic Identification System) technologies could be enhanced through LusoSpace’s ATON satellite constellation. By combining cutting-edge space technology with maritime operations, we’re paving the way for smarter, safer, and more efficient monitoring of our seas. This past month, the 12th of August, marked a historic moment with the successful launch of Sentinel-5 onboard MetOp-SG with Ariane 6 from Kourou!   We are proud to have participated in this mission, developing the Optical Ground Support Equipment (OGSE) for the Assembly, Integration, and Test (AIT) and Characterization and Calibration (C&C) phases of the Sentinel-5 payload. These systems were key for the alignment and calibration of the payload, ensuring the outstanding performance it will now deliver in orbit.   Sentinel-5 will provide vast amounts of critical atmospheric data, helping us better understand and protect our planet. In April this year, the European Space Agency - ESA successfully launched Biomass, a pioneering Earth Explorer mission dedicated to mapping the world’s forests and their role in the carbon cycle. Designed to deliver unprecedented data on how much carbon is stored in forests and how this changes over time, Biomass carries the first P-band synthetic aperture radar ever flown in space. This technology will help scientists better understand deforestation, regrowth, and climate change impacts. We at LusoSpace are proud to contribute to this mission with two of our best selling magnetometers, which play a key role in ensuring accurate measurements in space.
