Today we announced an exclusive digital alliance with SBM to transform FPSO production performance. The recent discovery of a major oil and gas reserve in Brazil, expected to raise output to 2.3–2.5 million barrels per day, highlights the complexity of the global energy transition. While the world moves swiftly towards renewable energy, fossil fuels remain crucial for meeting current demand, particularly in regions where energy access and economic growth are still developing. This discovery underscores the need to balance reliable energy supply with accelerating the clean energy transition. For the Global South, managing this balance means investing in cleaner fossil fuel technologies, using revenues to support renewable infrastructure and social programmes, and ensuring equitable access to affordable energy. A just transition requires policies tailored to local contexts and international cooperation to help emerging economies leapfrog towards sustainable, low-carbon futures. The key point however is that fossil fuels will still be around for a while, we only need to get better at deploying cleaner fossil fuel technologies. 🌏 https://lnkd.in/dSjzFGCX #EnergyTransition #FossilFuels #JustTransition #GlobalSouth bp
