💶 Average salary in Cyprus now exceeds €2,500/month - but the story looks very different once you zoom in by industry. Here’s a quick snapshot (gross monthly averages, early 2025): 🔹 Finance & Insurance: ~€4,600 🔹 Tech/ICT: ~€4,500–€5,000 🔹 Public Sector: ~€3,300–€3,450 🔹 Construction: ~€1,750–€1,820 🔹 Retail/Trade: ~€1,700–€1,800 🔹 Hospitality: ~€1,585 🔹 Agriculture: ~€900–€950 📊 What this tells us: Many workers - especially in retail, hospitality, agriculture - earn well below the “average” €2,509/month. Rising costs for rent, food, childcare, and healthcare hit hardest in exactly those sectors. Averages can mask realities: for a significant share of the population, life is getting harder, not easier. 💡 So what can we do? If we want sustainable growth - economically and socially - we need to think beyond headline numbers. Some ideas: ✔️ Sector-weighted living wage adjustments ✔️ Housing-linked benefits or subsidies ✔️ Support for childcare, healthcare, commuting costs ✔️ Clear career pathways & training in lower-paid sectors 👉 At the end of the day, this isn’t about “blaming employers.” It’s about recognising the disconnect between macro indicators and everyday life and reshaping compensation, benefits, and housing access in ways that support real people. I've got some tips for you that might help. ✨ starting with “Dear Sirs” is like calling someone Dave when their badge says Sophie 📄 double check attachments… we want your CV, not your last utility bill (yes, it’s happened) 🤖 using ChatGPT? go ahead, but maybe take out the [insert job title here] and [insert hiring manager] before you hit send ⏳ “????” after 24 hours without a reply isn’t a follow-up, it’s a mystery novel title 📬 one polite nudge is fine, but don’t harass your recruiter across LinkedIn, phone, email and carrier pigeon you're welcome!

✨ The 28th Application Changed Everything ✨ I once hired a candidate who had applied to our company 27 times. Each time, the answer was “no.” Sometimes it was because their skills weren’t quite there yet. Other times, they aimed for roles that required more seniority and experience than they had at the time. But on their 28th attempt, their application landed on my desk. This time, I saw something different. They had grown. They had built new skills. They still weren’t perfect on paper, but the potential was undeniable. I invited them for the first call, something they’d been waiting on for years. That conversation changed everything. They earned the offer. It required relocation a big step for their family but it became a turning point in their career. 👉 Here’s the lesson for job seekers: Don’t measure rejection as failure, sometimes it’s feedback that you’re not ready yet. Review the job description carefully. Ask yourself: Do I cover most of these skills? If yes, don’t let the missing ones stop you, growth happens on the job. If a company rejects you, it doesn’t mean forever. It may simply mean not yet. Revisit after six months or a year, once you’ve sharpened your skills. Persistence pays off when it’s paired with growth. That candidate’s story reminds me that resilience, patience, and continuous learning can eventually open the right door. 💡 The biggest difference I've noticed in hiring contractors today vs. hiring contractors 2020-2022 and how to leverage these insights: The Great Resignation "era" was a period of accelerated digital transformation with increased demand for online services, e-commerce, and support for remote workers which propelled a huge demand for talent. Hiring teams needed people to support their growth and fast! From a hiring standpoint, teams seemed much more open to hiring for potential with growth opportunities in mind. After the mass layoffs of 2023-2024, hiring teams still have significant gaps to fill, big initiatives they want to lead, but are operating on much leaner FT teams. What does this mean for contractors? Hiring teams are prioritizing people who can own work, execute and bring value from day one. When interviewing, think about your impact and frame your stories with the following in mind: - Can you tell a story about a similar initiative you managed - What was the business goal for this specific initiative/project? - What did you specifically own/impact? - What were some of the biggest challenges and how did you overcome them? - What were the outcomes? When starting a new contract role, be curious/ask questions, and be proactive about seeking resources/information. - Logistically, are there specific hours that you're expected to be online - What are the preferred communication styles - What are the highest priority projects/initiatives to tackle - Where can you find resources related to information on xyz Anything else?

Recruitment Pro Tip #147 Delete your name from your CV! What I've learnt from many company trainings: everyone is biased, racist and opinionated. You have an Eastern European, Arabic, Asian etc. name? Reject! You share the same name as my ex, old teacher, or parent?? Reject! Your name translate awkwardly in my native language? Reject! Your name is only causing you trouble. Delete your name and let recruiters focus on your skills! You're welcome.

It’s 2025 — and I’m still shocked by how many people don’t know how to write a proper CV. Sometimes I come across CVs that don’t even include the company name or job title. Others are so vague or disorganized, it’s genuinely challenging to understand what experience the person actually has. We're not talking about entry-level candidates here — I see this often with mid-level professionals who’ve been in the workforce for years. With all the free tools, templates, and resources out there, there's really no excuse anymore. Here’s what every CV must have: ✅ Company name ✅ Job title ✅ Dates of employment ✅ Key responsibilities (briefly) ✅ Impact — what you actually achieved ✅ Clean, easy formatting Your CV should tell your story clearly, confidently, and quickly. If a recruiter or hiring manager has to guess what you’ve done — they’ll move on to someone else. If you're unsure, get a second opinion. One good review or rewrite could be the difference between silence and your next big role.
