Revit ≠ BIM: Let’s Talk Expectations It’s amazing how often we hear this: “We’ll just get Revit, and suddenly we’ll have a full BIM project.” Here’s the truth: Revit is a tool. A very powerful one. But it’s still just a tool. BIM is a process, a mindset, and yes - sometimes a headache if you underestimate it. Many in management overestimate what software alone can do. Installing Revit doesn’t magically solve coordination, clash detection, or information management. It doesn’t automatically turn your team into BIM experts overnight. Achieving a true BIM project requires planning, standards, collaboration, and sometimes a healthy dose of patience. Revit helps - but it won’t do the heavy lifting for you. We panicked for a second…turns out, it was just AWS. 🤣 Cloud isn’t quite as untouchable as it sounds. A major Amazon Web Services (AWS) outage - temporarily took down parts of the internet. From Snapchat and Slack to, yes, Autodesk, everything went a little sideways. BIM 360, ACC, and even license verification for desktop tools like AutoCAD - were hit hard. Users couldn’t access projects, some couldn’t even open their software, and patience suddenly became the most valuable resource in the AEC world. It was a simple but powerful lesson: everything’s connected, and sometimes one broken link can pause half the internet. Balkan Architect website took a nap during the outage. But we’re back - refreshed and a little wiser about just how dependent we all are on those invisible servers in the sky. Lesson learned?
