Yesterday marked a milestone for science education and youth empowerment in the Kingdom. Under the presence of H.E. the Minister of Education, Yousef Bin Abdullah Al-Benyan (Ministry of Education, Saudi Arabia), the King Salman Science Oasis (KSSO) and UNESCO officially launched the National STEAM Initiative: “Ignite Your Passion. Unlock Your Potential” (2025–2030), a nationwide effort to inspire curiosity, strengthen scientific culture, and nurture innovation among young learners across Saudi Arabia. 🇸🇦 🌟 As part of this landmark event, the UN Global Compact Network Saudi Arabia supports KSSO, joining as a partner to advance the initiative’s vision and amplify private-sector engagement in building future-ready skills aligned with Vision 2030 and the Sustainable Development Goals. Through this collaboration, we aim to empower youth, educators, and communities to embrace science, technology, and creativity as pathways toward sustainable development and inclusive growth. Last week, Mr Mohamed El Zarkani, UN Resident Coordinator in Saudi Arabia and Head of the UN Country Team, convened the UN Country Team Retreat, an annual gathering that brings together UN entities operating in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to strategise collective priorities, align efforts, and strengthen partnerships in support of Saudi Arabia’s development goals and Vision 2030. Representing the UN Global Compact Network Saudi Arabia, Faisal Al Azib and Njoud Al Yousef contributed to discussions on the critical role of the private sector in advancing the SDGs and driving inclusive economic growth. They emphasised the importance of engaging SMEs in global sustainability dialogues, ensuring that businesses of all sizes can play a meaningful part in shaping a more responsible, resilient, and sustainable economy for the Kingdom. The retreat reaffirmed the UN’s shared commitment to supporting Saudi Arabia’s transformative journey, fostering collaboration across the system to deliver impact that is locally grounded and globally aligned. Empowering the Next Generation of Changemakers 🌍🇸🇦 Earlier last week, the UN Global Compact Network Saudi Arabia, in collaboration with Saudi Youth for Sustainability (SYS), convened a high-level Forward Faster Hub Roundtable under the theme: “Saudi Youth Driving Innovation for Vision 2030.” Chaired by Faisal Al Azib, the roundtable brought together a diverse group of youth leaders, private-sector innovators, government representatives, and academic experts; all united by a shared ambition: to position Saudi youth at the forefront of regenerative and inclusive innovation, shaping the Kingdom’s sustainable future. Through dynamic discussions and collaborative insights, participants explored how young innovators can accelerate progress across the UN Global Compact’s Forward Faster target areas while contributing to the goals of Saudi Vision 2030.
