If you’re a fintech founder looking for opportunity, Salah Hamawi has a message for you: look to the Middle East. Speaking to Inc. Arabia at this year’s edition of Money20/20 Middle East, Hamawi, who is a Partner at global consulting firm Kearney, pointed out that the region is fast emerging as a global fintech hub—and the opportunity it presents is ripe for the taking. For entrepreneurs thus wanting to make the most out of this ecosystem, Al Hamawi said that the most valuable currency they can make use of isn’t capital—it’s connection. “The one advice I would give fintech founders is network, network, network,” Hamawi said. “Money20/20 is a great example of a platform that brings together all the different players within the sector—you’ve got banks, regulators, consulting firms, and investors. We are still mentally at Money20/20 Middle East where Nigeria showed up. On Day 1 - I sat back and thought: this is what it looks like when a country brings its best to the global stage. Doris Uzoka-Anite MD, CFA - Honourable Minister of State for Finance, Federal Republic of Nigeria, speaking powerfully on diaspora capital and borderless growth. Olugbenga Agboola 'GB', CEO of Flutterwave — Nigeria’s unicorn — proving that our tech can scale globally. Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, CCIE, Director General of NITDA Nigeria (Nigeria's CIO)— showing that policy and innovation can actually run side by side. And then me — in my Île Noor kandora and colorful Nike sneakers — carrying a piece of Lagos energy into Riyadh, a reminder that identity and creativity matter just as much as strategy. For Safira Events, this was bigger than speaking slots or panels. It was Nigeria’s story being written on one of the biggest fintech stages in the world. The question I keep asking is: what now?
