The flames are lit—Unit 41 at Rabigh Combined Cycle Power Plant has officially achieved First Fire, a defining step in bringing 1,200 MW of reliable power closer to the grid. Built in partnership with Siemens Energy for our client Saudi Electricity Company (SEC), this milestone confirms the readiness of all major systems for Unit 41. The Gas Turbine, Generator, Air Intake, Exhaust Gas System (Bypass Stack and Diverter Damper), and auxiliary systems—including Closed Cooling Water, Service Water, Compressed Air, Fuel Gas Receiving, and Demineralized Water—have been fully inspected, validated, and approved for operation. Electrical systems have also been energized, enabling power distribution and activation of the Turning Gear. As the momentum continues, Unit 42 has just been back-energized and is now being prepared for First Fire next week. Unit 43 is also on track for back-energization within days, moving us steadily toward full simple cycle operation. Once complete, the plant will supply electricity to approximately 500,000 residential units annually—a meaningful contribution to Saudi Arabia’s growing energy demand. Earlier this month, the project received the SEC CEO Excellence Award—a recognition that reflects the dedication and discipline of the ELSEWEDY ELECTRIC PSP and Siemens Energy consortium team, and the seamless collaboration with the Saudi Electricity Company (SEC) and PDC teams. This achievement is a clear demonstration of how all parties worked diligently and in full harmony to fulfill our commitments—delivering each milestone with quality, precision, and on schedule. NGC Press Release Milestone Achieved - NGC Energizes 500 kV K2/K3 Transmission Line to Evacuate 2,200 MW Power from Nuclear Plants This milestone was realized through unwavering support of Ministry of Energy (Power Division), Board of Directors NGC and collective efforts of key NGC departments Lahore - July 29, 2025 - The National Grid Company of Pakistan Ltd. (NGC) has successfully energized the 500 kV K2/K3–Matiari and KKI–Port Qasim transmission line circuits, marking a major step forward in strengthening the nation’s power infrastructure. This 102 km long transmission line (double-circuit, quad-bundle) is intended to evacuate 2,200 MW power from K2 and K3 nuclear power plants near Karachi. The newly commissioned transmission line establishes a dedicated link between the K2/K3 facilities of KANUUP (PAEC) with the existing 500kV Port Qasim - Matiari transmission line and has been completed at an approximate cost of PKR 18.45 billion. This critical enhancement in the transmission infrastructure significantly augments the reliability, stability, and transmission capacity of the national grid. The energization of the transmission line will witness an increase in NGC's grid resilience in the southern region, catalyzing regional development and creating job opportunities while contributing to a broader economic growth. The project will also support Pakistan’s energy security vision by ensuring induction of clean nuclear energy into the energy mix. Despite numerous obstacles, this milestone was realized through unwavering support of Ministry of Energy (Power Division), Board of Directors NGC and collective efforts of key NGC departments, including Project Delivery (South), Asset Management (South), Telecom, HVDC (South), TSG (South), Transmission Line Design, Material Procurement & Management, Protection & Control, Power System Planning and special support from ISMO.
