Is Climate Tech Dead? That was the bold opening question from Karl Liapunov during his keynote at SlushD Mandal. No one knows the Norwegian climate tech startup ecosystem better than Karl, an American who has personally analyzed 250 startups in the field. For those expecting a feel-good story, the reality was sobering—investments in climate tech have dropped by 50% since the peak years of 2020-2021. But there is a silver lining: an increasing number of international investors are turning their attention to Norway. Much of this momentum can be credited to Karl, who, together with Åshild Aarø and Harrshinny Vallipuram organized the Climate Tech Summit—bringing 150 international investors to Startuplab Karl is deeply passionate about connecting international investors with Norwegian startups. If Norway is to establish itself as a global hub for clean tech startups, we need more people like Karl.
