IES Hosts Tianjin Federation of Industry and Commerce Delegation to Foster Cross-Border Collaboration 🫱🏼🫲🏼 The Institution of Engineers, Singapore (IES) was pleased to host a delegation led by Mr. Lou Jie, Chairman of the Tianjin Federation of Industry and Commerce, on Friday, 26 September. The visiting group comprised dynamic young entrepreneurs and new start-ups from a diverse range of sectors, including manufacturing, technology, construction, and recycling. The Tianjin delegation was welcomed by an IES delegation led by Honorary Secretary Er. Simon Lee and Vice President for Professional Development A/Prof Lim Kok Hwa, alongside representatives from the IES Council and International Outreach Committee (IOC). The primary objective of the meeting was to explore concrete collaboration opportunities between the two organisations. Discussions focused on facilitating partnerships between Singaporean and Chinese companies and exploring joint ventures into each other's markets. During the session, Dr Aaron Sham and Mr Chow Kok Wah presented an overview of IES, detailing our core functions and the impactful work of our Incubator & Accelerator (INCA) programme. In turn, the Tianjin representatives introduced their respective companies, showcasing innovative products and services. Both parties expressed great enthusiasm for the meeting's outcomes and the promising business opportunities identified. The dialogue marked a significant step forward in strengthening economic ties between Singapore and Tianjin. 🚀 Equipping Engineer-Leaders for an AI-Driven Future: GELP 2025 Wraps Up The Global Engineers Leadership Programme (GELP) 2025, jointly organised by IES Academy (IESA) and NTUC PME, in collaboration with the National University of Singapore (NUS), has successfully concluded!   This five-day, in-person programme was specially designed for engineer-leaders to gain deeper insights into future technological and geopolitical trends, enabling informed decision-making in an unpredictable and AI-driven world.   It covered a wide spectrum of topics, including the NUS short course “Engineering Leadership in Uncertainty” and the IESA/NTUC Curated Dialogue Series, which addresses challenges brought about by technological disruptions.   Programme Highlights: 🔥 Opening & Fireside Chat Officially opened by Mr Mervyn Sirisena, Deputy President, The Institution of Engineers, Singapore (IES), followed by a fireside chat with Mr Peter Ho, Executive Chairman, HOPE Technik, moderated by Mr Sirisena. Mr Ho shared his leadership journey, innovation perspectives, and insights on AI-driven transformation in engineering.   📚 Workshops by NUS Faculty Participants gained cutting-edge knowledge on creative problem solving, geopolitics and innovation, bridging theory with practical applications for engineers navigating uncertainty in the AI era.   💬 Dialogue with Former Deputy Prime Minister Mr Heng Swee Keat Mr Heng shared perspectives on global shifts, leadership in complex environments, and the critical role engineers may play in shaping Singapore’s future. It was moderated by Prof Chai Kah Hin, Associate Provost (Masters’ Programmes and Lifelong Education), NUS and Vice Dean (Graduate Programmes), NUS College of Design and Engineering.   🎓 Graduation & Panel Discussion The programme concluded successfully with graduation speeches by Er. Chan Ewe Jin, IES President and Mr Patrick Tay, NTUC Assistant Secretary-General, as Guest-of-Honour.
