A great VC is just like a great angel investor. Founders should choose to partner with VCs whom they respect and admire the most. Successful partnerships make valuations and dilutions seem almost like an afterthought. Seek help from them. 🤝🏽 Partner with those who prioritise spending time on strategic problem solving (forest), instead of delving deep into the day-to-day tactical decisions (trees). 🔩 For the initial rounds, have operators on the captable as angels. Likely that they have already solved the problems that you are going through today. And they don't need to be managed. 🧲 To VCs, his advice is to identify and back leading metrics (such as engagement over monetisation, frequency over retention) instead of chasing what others find hot. #Update Sameer Brij Verma, formerly of Nexus Venture Partners, has launched Northpoint Capital, a new solo GP fund, securing USD 150 million. The fund will target early-stage investments, backing 15-20 startups with initial checks from USD 1 million to USD 8 million, and selectively participating in follow-on rounds. Northpoint Capital will focus on companies that integrate emerging technologies, particularly AI, across financial services, healthcare, logistics, manufacturing, and consumer goods. Most of the capital comes from international investors, with the remainder from domestic sources. This launch, amidst shifts in Indian venture capital leadership, adds to the growing, albeit cautiously deployed, capital available for Indian startups. The fund awaits final regulatory approvals to onboard limited partners.
