Temasek Trust chairman and SID’s newest Honorary Fellow Ms Ho Ching shared her insights on board ownership, transformational directorship, and more at the fireside chat that took place at the SID Directors Conference 2025.   “The board and management have to see themselves as complementary. They are partners. At the Temasek Tripartite Conversations 2025, I was encouraged to see many employers keen on placing workers at the forefront of AI transformation, a skill-first approach that is especially critical in today’s age of rapid disruption. I highlighted three essentials for businesses to succeed in this journey: 1️⃣ A sound business model for long-term sustainability 2️⃣ An AI infusion plan to enhance business processes 3️⃣ A workforce plan to upskill, reskill, and redesign jobs for higher-value work   To support this, NTUC, together with AI Singapore, has developed an AI transformation blueprint and methodology to help SMEs assess their readiness and harness AI effectively to strengthen their businesses.   Through our Company Training Committees (CTCs), NTUC also partners unions and employers to identify higher-value jobs within companies and the skills workers will need to take them on. Training must always translate into real job opportunities — enabling workers to apply their skills, progress in their careers, and achieve better wages. I urge more companies to partner with NTUC. Explore new possibilities, push boundaries, and most importantly, build stronger capabilities while empowering workers to thrive in an AI-driven economy. Inspired by his son’s journey to gain inclusive employment, and his time on the board of the Down Syndrome Association, Mr Ong Chin Wah saw first-hand how many graduates from special education schools struggled to find jobs – despite their abilities and potential. Alongside other caretakers that faced similar circumstances, they founded a social enterprise that currently employs eight persons (and counting!) with intellectual disabilities. Their goal? To produce up to 12kg of mushrooms daily in an urban mushroom farm known affectionately as 'Mushroom Buddies'. Today, it is redefining what inclusive employment looks like in Singapore and setting a new standard for opportunity and impact.
