Intermittent trouble with file previews and sending messages for EKM users

From 6:00 AM PDT to 9:18 AM PDT on October 22, 2025, some Slack workspaces with EKM (Enterprise Key Management) enabled may have experienced issues with sending messages, uploading files, using Slack Connect, querying search, Slack AI, and using workflows.

We traced this back to an unexpected spike in traffic to our backend service responsible for EKM processes, leading to a reduction in service responsiveness. We identified the problematic servers and initiated a restart, restoring full functionality to the EKM backend services.

While our initial communication indicated issues related to sending messages and file uploads, our follow up reviews have identified additional features that were also affected, including:

  • Slack Connect
  • Search
  • Slack AI
  • Workflows

This issue is now resolved for all users.
