There is a world of difference between these two situations:

1). Having to do something because you've pretty much always to do it.

2). Having to do something that you never had to do before.

For example:

plugging in your mobile phone or laptop to charge it up...which you've had to do ever since you got a cell phone or laptop.

Plugging in your car, constantly, which you've never had to do before in your entire history of vehicle ownership.

Do you really not see the difference there?

The difference is very clear. I don't consider it a hardship or an inconvenience. You do, and that's really okay - I can't tell people what they think is or isn't an imposition. I'm just trying to clarify it in my mind, and perhaps am a little dense - which certainly wouldn't be the worst thing ever thought about me 8^)

Would I. prefer to live in Europe rather than the USA? Looking at Europe's history, I'd take the USA any day.

Seems it was a place where many innocent people died, with genocide occurring even in the 1990's.

You can bloviate on how Europe is superior to the USA in all respects, a place where all are welcome and happy.

Out of curiosity is your history banned or something? I'm terribly ashamed of some of the things the US has done, you all seem to have suppressed the horrors you have delivered to the world. Russia has good reason to hate Europe, and let us not forget about the Jews, the Roma, the gays, the blacks and all the other groups you killed in establishing a master race - and no, it was not only Germany, they had plenty of supporters in the countries they took over.

Couldn't happen again, though, eh? the 1990's were not that long ago, the tendencies have not gone away.

And before we get too much of a rageboner, all areas have dirty laundry. Just that altogether too many Europeans stilll act like they are the master race - we're told that every day as any topic gets turned Into a dish on the Assholes in the USA, in a few posts.

Frankly, that is a combination of whataboutism coupled with a deep inferiority complex that always comes out . A dead lock this post will be at -1 in a few minutes. Don't care if I gave the European ubermenchen booboo feelings.

I've looked on maps given me online...and most everything listed are private, not public chargers....the only ones I've seen out are some Tesla ones at a Winn-Dixie grocery store near me and I think 1-2 in front of a couple Whole Foods...but shy of that, not a lot around here to be found.

Wow, looks like a lot of variability going on. I wonder if something political is afoot, Nola is home to a lot (most?) oil refineries. Sure as anything Nola is hella bigger than my area.

Last hurricane that came through LA last year...hit us from the west, a bit unusual and travelled inland and far enough to cause lots of outages even in the NOLA area. Weird thing was, I had no power for like 3-4 days...but next door neighbor did. He threw an extension cord over the fence and from that I hooked back and forth to my fridge and big chest freezer and a window unit AC I had.

That kept me going and saved a lot of food loss.

I really need to buy a gasoline powered generator for things like that.....like you said, to have something...when you need it.

Here in PA, about a decade ago, we had a lot of trees come down in storms. That was nature doing needed trimming. So it was okay for a while. Then we've been getting ridiculous weather the last few years. The one in late April wasn't called a tornado, but a "derecho" Never heard of that before. But in my yard weather station, I got a gust of 149 mph. Haven't figured out if that was an anomaly, but looking at the neighborhood, it looked kinda like a tornado hit. A lot of trees snapped power lines down, and roof cave-ins.

That is an issue. Most people don't want to "constantly" be worried about or maintain their car's fuel level. They don't have to do it NOW. Why would they put themselves in a situation where they need to? Seems like a real downgrade.

As it stands now, I barely concern myself with the fuel level in my Jeep. I probably put gas in it once every two weeks, at most. I sure as fuck don't want to concern myself with it on a daily basis. I mean, That would just be ridiculous.

Plugging things that use electricity into electrical outlets is something that is unbearably inconvenient? If that is your situation, I'm okay with it. You do you. I'm okay with it, but what I don't understand and probably never will is that everything else is apparently not a problem

Having to recharge a battery being inconvenient and to be avoided might be a deal breaker for some, but I suspect other than a talking point, few have that idea. It isn't any problem for me at all, so I won't worry about it. Just another thing that needs plugged in in order to use it, either in real time or charging batteries. Plugging tools into and out of outlets. Recharging my cordless tools. Charging my phone. Charging my laptop. Recharging my other Li and Lead acid batteries. And if I had an EV, it would just be the same thing. Plug it in and recharge it without a second thought. Just like everything else. YMMV.

I have 240 and 120 volts outside the house, mostly for the Spa, but ifI need it for anything else, I just walk out and plug what I need in.

Just curious, what area in the US do you live that has all this EV charging infrastructure ...in parking lots, stores, etc like you list?

The middle of Pennsylvania. but at all the new Sheetz convenience stores, and many older ones - they have multiple charging stations. They have them in Black Moshannon State Park. Bald Eagle State Park, Burkholders grocery store in Millheim, (Burkholders also commits the sin of running their store mostly on Solar, which panels act as a cover for the parking lot. No need for an umbrella. Seven Mountains Campground has 2 chargers, Giant Markets in Bellefonte, Wise Markets in State College, Bellefonte Public Parking, several Sharepoints, and more coming in.

In irony, we're considered the heart of Appalachia, populated by hicks and rednecks who are living in the 1950s.

I've found that the number varies, from our 87 charging stations that are based on actual stations, and the no charging stations which is the number used by people who don't like EVs.

I have a friend who charges his in the driveway. It looks as "bad" as a plug for an emergency generator. Nothing drags on the ground no trip hazard, just a short length of cable. - he just back into the driveway, the connector is maybe three feet from the charging port on his car. It will create yet more divide between people who can afford a driveway or live where across pavement charging is allowed, and everyone else. Also going to contribute to parking wars because if people can't park where they can charge cheaply, they will be upset.

Is some of that money going to road infrastructure maintenance? Here in the hinterlands, there needs to be a way to get money for that, since the ICE taxes on gas/diesel serve that function.

Funny that. living in London and not having a driveway to charge on has not stopped any of us on the street from getting an EV. We have street lamps that have a charge port which we all use quite happily. I charge up as often as i used to have to fill up a petrol car. its up to the local authority to get all the street lamps converted to LED and then get companies to apply to update them to have a charger.

The buildout is simply something that takes time, and the speed and magnitude depend on how quickly EVs are bought and used.

Even in my little city, we have something like 87 charging stations. The growth in chargers is happening in step with the ownership.

Lightposts might be next, although we've been doing the charging "pillar" more. Some northern cities have had parking meter electrical outlets for decades - a different use - that being heaters for ICE engines which don't work well in midwinter temps. But they work just as well to charge an EV.
